The issue is not "Will it work on a low battery" - it's "Is it not working because of the battery". Until the answer to that is indefatigably, 100%, unquestionably "No" then charging it is an obvious preventative measure.
Spoiler:
Glad you got it sorted. |

Thank you! I've managed to successfully debrick my Kindle Touch (It was showing me the 'Your Kindle needs repair screen.') with the help of your guide. It was easy to follow and straight forward. The only problem I had encountered is that I couldn't get all the drivers to install under Windows 8 64bit so I created a Windows XP virtual machine where it worked flawlessly.

What step you failed on. Sounds like you are in some odd mode (fastboot?) but I can't tell until you describe EXACTLY what you did up to that point. More information. |

Yes, on earlier devices, that diagnostic also reads/writes on the serial port.
Attach a 1.8 volt, low voltage serial to USB adapter to the serial port - then exit from diags mode using the serial port copy of the menu. The details of the serial port on the Kpw are indexed, pictured, and describe here. As is a good (long) teardown video. Check the "K5" prefix index in the sticky at the top of this forum. Too technical? Return it to Amazon as "broke" for an exchange. Last edited by knc1; 02-02-2013 at 08:52 AM. |

^ this.
Return or reflash via serial seem the options... |

Just use the menu present on the serial port. What is on screen in diag mode is also repeated on the serial port. If there is a delay in getting the serial port hardware, then: The diags mode is known to drain the battery faster than it charges - - Open it up **NOW** and remove the battery to prevent it from over-discharging while waiting for the serial port hardware! oopsy. Luckily it had an iota of charge in it by the time I noticed and recovered okay when given some charge love. hopefully your device will be in a state that accepts charge also. Good advice. preserve your power. |
