Calibre and the 'Snap' Feature on Win 7
Hi,
I'm using Windows 7 and when I try to 'snap' Calibre (i.e. drag it to one side of the screen whereby it should 'snap' into place and cover half of the screen) it does snap but the Calibre window takes up more than half the screen, which means it overlaps the other window by about an inch or so. Anyone have any ideas how to solve this? Thanks in advance (and also for the fantastic piece of software). Brophs |

Works fine here - with the task bar on the left or bottom - I suspect its a mismatch between what your monitor is capable of and the settings in Windows.
What about other software - eg Windows Explorer alongside your browser? Try right click on empty space in taskbar and Select Show Windows Side by Side - is it any different ? BR |

Calibre has a minimum required size of 775x420. Snap will not override minimum window width requirements. If you have a 1366x768 screen, half of that is 683 pixels, which is obviously less than 775 pixels. So calibre will snap to its minimum of 775, resulting in some overlaps.
On my 1920x1080p laptop, calibre snaps just fine to half-screen because 960 > 775. |

There's no minimum size as such. The graphics toolkit (Qt) calculates a minimum size based on the minimum sizes of individual widgets in the UI which in turn depend on the widget style, font sizes, etc. IIRC the calibre main window's minimum width is probably the result of the bar containing the search and related controls.

I don't have it installed anymore, but I know that UI replacements (skins and such) can change GUI positioning and cause mis-alignments. For instance, I know that an older version of WindowBlinds (on WinXP) used to have this issue. I'm not sure if it currently causes any issues.

I didn't know that the Trolls made mobile phones... Did anyone tell Tolkien? He might have gotten it wrong. |

Qt (cute) was developed by Norwegian company Trolltech, which was acquired by Finnish firm Nokia, who rebranded Trolltech as Digia.
Nokia was the worlds biggest mobile phone company Trolls originate from from Norse Mythology, Icelandic Saga's et al. BR |

Super off-topic, but neither GIMP nor QuodLibet use Qt. Both are GTK+ apps (in fact, GTK+ spawned from GIMP). This is something pretty much every gui toolkit does -- if you don't specify a minimum size for a window, but you do specify minimum sizes from the controls in the window, the window inherits the additive minimum size of those controls + layout (margins and spacing and such). Blaming Qt/Trolltech/Nokia/Digia for doing what every toolkit does is silly.
