The question is about the topography of the house, a subject that is not covered in the story. Where is the kitchen located in respect to the lounge? How is the quality of the walls? Could e.g. voices or a crash in the lounge be heard in the kitchen, or is the kitchen so far away that we can say that ravenne in the kitchen couldn't possibly hear anything of the happenings in the lounge, no matter how noisy?

In chapter 2, dreams says "You'll have time to run up to the Patricia Clark Memorial Library", but in chapter 8 it is "Alex, Jellby and HarryT walked down the hall to the library". (Emphasize is mine). Since I'm not familiar with building customs abroad, where is the hall located? Is the hall (and thereby the library) in the same floor as the lounge or is it located in the floor above?
I think they were talking about two different libraries. When you run up to someplace it's usually a public spot. A library, a grocery store etc. whereas a private home might also have a private library set up in one of the rooms.

The thought of two different libraries had occurred to me. But mobileread own the Patricia Clark Memorial Library, so it didn't sound quite correct that either. Will a public library not close on Christmas Eve? Here in Norway everything closes before 5 PM, but I have no idea how the customs are "abroad". I though it could be a good idea to clear this up in public so that the different languages or customs in this community is not a barrier to participate.

Where would the hall be then? In some books I've read, they have used the phrase "upstairs hall", indicating that the hall is usually downstairs - i.e. in the ground floor/1st floor (again, depending on location Why can't all the world be location-independent. Crime-solving could be more fun that way).

Oh my! Such a close reader! Too close perhaps?

To clarify - the phrase "run up to the library" is simply an Americanism that means "to go to the library". Similarly, "walking down the hall" doesn't mean going downstairs.

The library is located on the same floor as the lounge/living room - NOT upstairs.

Hint:

Spoiler:
The location of the library will NOT help you solve the mystery.

Okay, okay. I confess. I did it. I know I shouldn't have but that dang chicken kept clucking and sprouting its wings at me and I just went kinda berszerk. I've been hiding in the story in the one place no one expects to find me. The doghouse. My apologies to the author, characters, editor, and readers. I promise I won't do it again.

Thanks for the answer - and the hint. I sent you a PM with an explanation of why the location of the library is important. It's important for the time table, not for the actual murder.

Can I hope for a comment in the forum here on the location of the kitchen? I can send a PM about why that's important too.

The kitchen is adjacent to the lounge/living room area. So ravenne might have heard something ... but isn't the real question: Would she care if she did hear something?
