Funny, I either miss something, or you missed something I said. Don't you remember that old thing about parents beeing annoyed when their kids read at night with a flashlight, hidden under a blanket so nobody would notice. Or watching tv from 2 inches away. The blanket on top of beeing hid in closet to hide even more, not for warmth.

Congratulations on your new PW. And there is nothing wrong with having the ad-supported version. You might even consider to not get the cover. Not for money-reasons, but convenience. It might work for you either without a cover or with a zip-sleeve cover. On top of that, since you won't have a cover, it makes not sense to remove the ads. You will have to push the button to turn the PW on/off - and far as I know that does not require an extra swipe to get rid of the ads.

Also if you want a cover, don't go for Amazons cover. There is more economical covers.

You will love it! I own a Kindle Fire and it's way too bright compare to the PW. I haven't read in the dark yet other than taking it to my bathroom for a quick test but I think my hubby will finally shut up about the light bothering him.

I've gone through book lights, K3 Lighted Cover, Tablets and now the PW and I think I finally found a winner.

This has been another device I have been considering. I have a color e-reader and have been thinking about purchasing a e-ink display so I don't tire my eyes as much. Thanks for the review and glad you like it!

got Mine today, other than the lights at the bottom, mine is perfect I'm very impressed, here's two screenshots in a dark room, one at the default brightness of 22 and one at 17.

I see green and pink. After I mentioned it, can you un-see it? Joking aside, I want a perfect one, but paperback papers are often not perfect, hopefully a little discoloration doesn't bother you. Hot light holes really bother me, it seems very rare on Paperwhite; of course, it is not on yours.

I can't, I've seen a lot of the images on here with purple and pink blobs and they are truly very bad, but I think that if you expect better than what I'm seeing , your expecting way too much.

My PW doesn't have any color problems. I am tint sensitive too or so I've been told. Here a pic of it on 8 setting the background is much whiter than the pic. I'd say a Florescent white but my camera can't capture it. I don't know why that is.

Edit: added a setting at 17 but who would read at that setting?!?

^ Not at 17, because it is a odd number, but my wife got hers on 18 - mines 10 or 12. Good thing about the PW is - it turns the light off when it sleeps. I find her PW regularly on the covers, sideways between pillow and covers, half burried on my side of the bed - and of course both her and the PW are sleeping. She likes it much better than the Touch - was always a hassle to angle it towards the lamp - and our cats like to block the lamp by laying in front of it. Yeah, the PW is much better as gets dark when you fall asleep reading.

Pictures look good. Except for them rainbow colors and blotches.

I can see even your kindle has decoloration, although it is very hard to see on the photo.
It's not as obvious as most people claim it is, but it is visible.

I think most of us see a white screen at first, and when we sit still, and stare/glare at the screen, see the decoloration. With a camera it may be that it tries to auto-correct the image, so that on the photo it's less visible!

It's also entirely possible that all this is just an optical illusion... I hope at least someone ever thought of it!

Yeah you really can't tell from pictures what it looks like. But I don't see any colors, I am interesting in that book though, lol. What book is it? I read the whole page.

I am so glad you got a PW, I really like it. It is lighter than the KFHD, and lighter than my KFDX (lol). I love X-ray (some books have it). Battery life is great. My KFHD not so much. I may have to call Amazon, it went to 34% in two day, only reading a book.

What setting do you reading in the dark? Mine is 10.

I'm not seeing any blotchiness, and I can read at 17 or higher, at lower it looks like a regular ereader to me, grey not white and kinda defeats the purpose.

What you see is the JPEG artifact. I had to resize the photo in PSP7 and upload it then resave it with more compression or it be huge. Being someone who works with graphics I wasn't happy to see it adds those color specs and another thing is the camera refuses to use Flash with the PW's light set up high so that another problem capturing the screen. Any cheap digital camera without Flash adds that grainy color pixels. *sigh* It's just how it works. I'm having problems getting my Sony Digital Camera battery to charge.

Also make sure you view the pic in full size. The forum resizes it yet again till you click on it then click again to enlarge to it's original size.

There is so no color blobs whatsoever on my PW what you see it the limits of my camera and Paint Edit program.
