If you look at the legend under your user name on the left side of the screen, it says "Device: Kindle", which is why JSWolf thinks you have one.

What device you use is a setting you can modify in your user profile. Click on the User CP menu choice under the MobileRead logo, and choose Customize Profile from the User CP menu to change the device the board will say you use.

The question is how it got set the Kindle in the first place.

I wonder the same thing. If you don't have a Kindle, why did you list the Kindle as your device? It's something you would have had to edit in your profile.

don't have him use a laptop

If he is currently using a laptop, he should stop if you think he could be having seizures. Go with a old fashioned CRT screen.

I would think that the e-ink would be best, I am not sure what the refresh rate is on the eb 1150 which is what I have, and really like. It would work for reading the project gutenburg stuff.

I hope you are able to find something that works well!

I would have thought personally that an LCD screen would "flicker" a lot less than a CRT, wouldn't it? Although LCD screens have a slower refresh rate than CRTs, the much longer "persistence" of the screen means that the image is static.

And the Sony comes with a protective cover, unlike the Cybook.

For Gutenberg books (and convenience), I'd recommend purchasing a DVD from silkpagoda.com that has over 10,000 books/stories, and a browser-based index. It costs about $10 and is well worth it!

My friend who has seizures uses a old CRT because of the faster re-fresh rate. LCD's only refresh 60-80mhz, and in general are not very customizable. He says he has CRT set to 120 and while he still gets seizures, it does help reduce the frequency.

Of course he could be wrong, but that is how he explained it to me. *shrug*

Seconded. It's a pity, though, that the filenames are a mess (they look more or less randomly generated, and they are all in a single directory... :-(), so getting around it *needs* that HTML index. But it's a good deal for 10 bucks. They have PDF, MOBI, LRF & LIT versions of it.
