Hi folks from York

Hello everyone - I am not yet an owner of any reader hardware but am sorely tempted by the Waterstones pre-order offer on the PRS-505. Great advice and info on these forums so I can see myself hanging around quite a lot.

Hi Rob and welcome to the Forum. I resisted, first, the 500 and then the 505. But in January, I gave in and got a blue and am very happy with it.

York as in the US or York as in the UK?? I spent one of the worst nights of my entire life in York (in the UK). Not York's fault, by any means, just happened to be the place in which I was praying for death by the time the sun came up.

Oh, and welcome to the forum!!!

Since the original poster mentions Waterstones and pre-ordering a Sony 505 I think it's a pretty certain bet that it's York in northern England.

WELCOME! York was the English trading capital of Viking days, according to many Discovery Channel documentaries.

In that case, I almost died in York once. And, really it is a lovely place, not a half bad place to almost die, come to think of it. But then, even the reference to Waterstones means nothing to me ... for all I would know, that could be a bookstore in Pennsylvania.

It's also at one end of Hadrien's Wall as I recall.

York is indeed a very beautiful city - it's only about an hour's drive away from me, and it's a place I visit often. Its cathedral, York Minster, is absolutely stunning. Waterstones is the largest chain of book shops in the UK.

I'm afraid not . Hadrian's wall is a good hundred miles north of York.

Well, a hundred miles is nothing around here ... I have to go that far just to get groceries.

I do remember the Minster ... I think I took a photo of it. All I really remember about York, however, is that the bathroom of the youth hostel was set up like a bowling alley, with the door at one end .... and about 20 feet by 4 feet to the other end where the toilet was. Light switch was on the hall side of the door ... not in the room itself. No windows.

And, I spent most of the night at the toilet end of the room being hideously sick, and long about three in the morning someone walked by the WC and noticed that the light was on .... so they turned it off. I immediately heard "things" skittering across the floor, so I pulled my feet up and stayed there for the next four hours, still being hideously sick, but in the dark, with company.

And .... that was my adventure in York.
