Help with a bit of music

I'm horribly busy today ... not much time to post or read posts. However, I heard a song the other day. It sounded a tiny bit like Sting, but wasn't really his style.

All I could make out from the snatch of lyric a heard was something about "my father laughed" or "my old man laughed" .... something like that if not that.

I've Googled those phrases and pulled up nothing that fits. If the song sounds familiar to anyone, please let me know.

I have to go now ... I've got a whole work crew to help me with stuff today, and I really need to get back to them.

Geez, for some reason that reminded me of an old Mike and the Mechanics song but I'm pretty sure THAT isn't it.

(Oh great, now that's stuck in my head. That means I gotta dig out the Du Hast again to clear my head. Arrrgggh)

It won't kill me to listen to it ... who knows?

It was a very sweet sort of song ... kind of folk, but not. The singer sounded a lot like Sting ... but then again not quite. I was trying to remember more of the lyrics, but sadly, as with punchlines in jokes, my mind is too often a sieve when it comes to song lyrics.

It will probably drive me completely nuts until someday when I hear it again and have some paper and a pencil ready ... or my phone with me (it has some sort of song recognition program on it .... but, of course I didn't have it with me ... why would I have the one program I really needed today actually on the device I had on me at the time??)

If it was played over the radio there is a chance that they might have the station logs/song logs and can tell you what songs they played around the time you remember hearing it. (However with the automation and remote programming so widespread today in radio that may only be a faint hope at best.)

It's not All This Time, is it? It contains the phrase "the old man laughing":

At least now you know why he sounded a "tiny bit like Sting".

Man, that's from long ago. He looks like he should be playing with Dire Straights or Rick Springfield. He's handled his solo career pretty well.

The pity of time is you forget things you liked decades ago. The joy of time is you get to rediscover them all over again. (Plus the older you get the shorter the intervals between enjoying and forgetting. A few more years and I should be able to rediscover my favorite artists every few months.)

Yeah .... but, every time I'm certain about a particular singer ... it turns out to be someone else who sounds like the person I'm thinking of. I heard a song at a party ... sounded a LOT like Bruce Hornsby to me ... apparently it wasn't, which wasn't the bad part so much. The bad part was having the entire party come to a screeching halt while everybody turned to look at me with their jaws scraping the floor.

Gee ... so I don't know that there's some new guy who is the most popular singer out there who I think sounds like Bruce Hornsby. Sheesh. So, shoot me ... I don't watch American Idol, and I don't have any radio reception to speak of out here in the sticks.
