My Glo has stopped glowing

My glo powered off after 15 minutes of inactivity with the light on. When I woke it up again, the light won't turn on with the button. I've tried powering it off and on and a soft-reset (via the pinhole). Other than the light, it is working fine. The battery is at 50%. I suppose the next thing to try would be a factory reset after charging it to 100%. I'm sad

"My Glo has stopped glowing"

Have you considered visiting Chernobyl for a recharge?

Sounds like you're doing what anyone might suggest already. Are you able to change the brightness setting?(curiosity)

Isn't there a reset where you hold the light button and power on for the Glo?

My guesses are it needs a reset, you have a bad button, or the output transistor or MOSFET driving the LEDs is kaput. TRANSLATION: Reset or Return.

Best of Luck!

No, unfortunately that bottom bar only appears when the light is turned on.

If there is, I'm not sure of the sequence. It isn't listed on Kobo's help page.

Thanks for the suggestions! If the factory reset doesn't work, I guess it's back to the store today.

That does sound like your light button is dead. Be aware that holding the light button on and flicking the power button (when the Kobo is starting from powered off) will put you into a full factory reset (i.e. wipes the Kobo completely and requires setting up and loading all content again -- same as doing a factory reset from the menu).

I would think that if the problem is with the LEDs, pressing the button would bring up the light indicator bar at the bottom. Based on that, I also think it's a bad button. If you're going to do a factory reset anyway, try the light button + power slider method, that way you will know if the light button is indeed broken.

That is an excellent point. I cannot start a factory reset while pushing the light button and the slider, so it must be a bad button. Since I've had the reader longer than 30 days, the store won't exchange it. I'll have to return the device to Kobo to get a replacement.

It might be a useful feature to be able to turn the light on via the software. If that was the case I wouldn't have to exchange it.

Yea, when I read your original post, I thought for sure that you'd be able to turn it on in settings, but after looking I realized it didn't exist. Something they should really consider adding in a future firmware update.

Edit: If you're going to make a warranty claim anyway, I'd try a factory reset. You never know, it may be a problem on the software side, not recognizing the button press. Unlikely, but worth a shot.

I just wanted to say that other than the light button suddenly not working, I *really* like my Glo. I'm looking forward to receiving the replacement.

Could you have mistakenly programmed the touch firmware? Probably not just guess. You could do a firmware update to newest firmware manually.
moot point if your getting a replacement.

Good luck

I didn't do any manual updates, any update was through the Kobo Desktop after the factory reset. I don't believe an update caused the issue as I always keep the wireless off and only open the Desktop app when I'm sure a new firmware version is worth having according to the generous people on these forums. Thanks for the suggestion though, I would have loved to solve the problem without needing a replacement.

Suggested in the Glo firmware requests page here:

It doesn't have to disappear when the light is off, it could just go black etc. Perhaps hold to turn the light on/off, touch to go through to the slider.

Feel free to +1 it if you like...
