In my current job I'm responsible for the technical aspects of a website for one college unit at a university. There is a "Tech Committee" which is supposed to "advise" me in developing it. Apparently they want me to switch to a fixed-width style, rather than the elastic one I've been slaving over to get just right for a couple of months (off and on). Because that's what "other colleges" use.

Apparently not. I need some examples of business schools that use elastic width formatting to show them.

Or I could wave a copy of Jakob Neilsen's Usability Engineering and shout passages to try to exorcise them of this nonsense... equally unlikely to work, but it sounds like more fun, at least.

maybe you could also throw the book at their head, in hopes that some sense might penetrate by osmosis (if you throw it hard enough...).

I'm all aghast! Queen Zee is promoting physical violence against university personnel? Esteemed professors and administrators?

Oh, wait...never mind...I've threatened to throw things at university staff before too, so I shouldn't be shocked. I used to hate those committee meetings with the college president, especially when I wanted to change something that had been her pet project for years and she couldn't see that it needed to be updated. Misoneism ran rampant on campus.

Wish I could help you, neko. I just looked up the website for the college of business at my local university and it's fixed width.

exactly, nor would i throw my eb1150. but a pbook, no worries. i hear they are also useful for propping doors open.
