I agreed I could write readable prose pretty much by reflex, but more was required: you needed stories to tell. I didn't happen to have any floating in my head that would expand to a book, so I was passing, thank you.

Loquacity in a forum like this is one thing. Stuff that will sell to a paying market is another.

Pshrynk may be right. And if he is a really good pshrynk, well, we need them.

True ... very true. I've got tons and tons and a few pounds left over of stories ... all true, some just plain weird. Problem is, I don't think I have the gift of prose. At least not in my own style. I tend to write a bit in the style of whatever the last book I read. When I write as I would write naturally, it's very dry and cut to the chase.

While I was reading David Sedaris's book ... forgot the title, his latest, I thought, "you know, I could string a bunch of stuff from my life and write something like this." But then, that's the problem ... it would be "something like" what David Sedaris wrote ... it wouldn't be very original, even if it was stuff from my own life.

And, if it can't be original, then what's the point?? So every time I give it any thought ... I talk myself out of it. I guess I have a fear of being a "hack" at those things I don't do really well, and I don't think I'd like being described as a "hack writer."

right now (9:09PM Eastern Standard Time AUS) I am siting here enjoying a glass of good wine, catching up on MR forums while waiting for a friend to come on line (SKYPE) so we can chat.
Also meditating and praying that tomorrow will be a quiet day at work and trying not to resent the fact that yesterday when my team was on line we were frantic, while today the team on line had 2 thirds the workload we had yesterday (telling myself it is bad to fume). It really would be a good day if there was no person who was worried about a child and there would be champagne corks popping for sure.
Also giving thanks that my eye doctor found nothing wrong with my eyes today and that the burst blood vessel last week has done no damage.
Apart from all that, I am reallly Reallllllly looking forward to a trip to the snow at the weekend with a friend. I know a lot of you are in places where it is hot at the moment, but here it is still winter and has been cold over the last few days so there is a little snow about. I have seen snow about five times in my 46 years on this earth.

I don't really have a choice about writing. It just forces its way out.

I do, however, have choices about how much of it I subject anyone else to.

Oh, that happened to me once. Woke up and thought I would die on the spot when I saw my eye. Glad yours turned out to be nothing. Mine did too.

Yup, those are pretty ghastly looking things, but 99 percent of the time they don't amount to anything actually injurious.

I saw them a lot when I lived in areas where a lot of people went diving.

What are you saying, neko? Is that directed at me? Why, I am insulted. Insulted, is what I am.

I am currently updating an employee handbook. Not exactly what I want to do on a Tuesday night, but then it's not something I really want to do any day or time, so at least I'm in the comfort of my home and watching a rerun of Eureka.

Far be it for me to deprive you of insult, but actually that was meant as a veiled threat.

Y'see, I could post my disastrous attempts at poetry here.

Oh, and I'm currently waiting for a file to load into Daz Studio so I can figure out what the ninja are hiding behind/on/under etc. for the next page of the manga.

I say I suck as a writer. I'm okay as a raconteur, but don't have the NEED to write. As my good friend Sasha Miller puts it, "To be a writer, you have to have stories breaking out of you like acne on a teenager." I just don't.
