"If you have tears, prepare to shed them now."
A week ago today I had a couple of wisdom teeth out, have spent the week on painkillers (which have been taking too long to kick in), developed an infection which is prolonging the suffering (now on two types of antibiotics); been on call all week and this weekend (with a s/ware release coming). Three hours sleep a night, high temperature, fever sweats. Letting my colleagues know it hurts to talk, and then having them engaging me in pointless chit-chat several times an hour. Woe is me!
Thank God for MobileRead, and the opportunity to share the pain through the medium of excrutiating puns - thanks for being there for me folks .

Next week has got to be better .

oh sparrow, that sounds HORRIBLE !!! i really hope you feel better soon. maybe you could ask marc to ask adrien (the invisible and inadvertently violent gibbon) to do something about your inconsiderate and rude colleagues ? i'm sure he could arrange for them to be unable to speak for awhile as well... at least until you are better...

please torture us with as many excruciating puns as you like, we are all here to help you...

good luck !

I may have to temporarily suspend the death squad activities for punnage because of that.

Most gracious .

The opportunity to PUNish others has been a great comfort.

Oh, lord no .... don't you dare start living my life. It's bad enough that I have to live it without you getting in on all the pain and suffering. You print up a card that says "Good for one session of idle chit chat effective 12/1/08"

If anyone so much as says "boo" to you ... hand them the card and WALK AWAY. That is an order.

Also, ask you doctor if he/she will consider giving you an Rx for Ambien for a week or so. That, in combination with your pain pills, should give you a few nights of good sleep.

I think you could really use it.

Thanks for the kind advice Ricky, but I reckon I'm getting over it.
A few more days and it'll be behind me .

It's been a rough week, but it makes me appreciate just how lucky I am generally.

I'm glad to hear that. It just wouldn't be right - in the grand scheme of things I mean - for me to be getting over my scorpion sting and staph infection so easily ... and for you to be going through hell over your wisdom teeth. It really is supposed to be the other way around.

Sorry to hear that about you Sparrow. Hope you get better soon. I had four wisdom teeth pulled many years ago. Good news, they didn't grow back. Bad news, I;ve lost a few since then.

Since I run my own business I get the fun duty of getting clients to pay. There are always a few otherwise good clients that just make you extract the money from them. I hate collections and I spent the whole day on this task.

Now I get the make up the lost time by working this weekend. Thankfully my wife has an event to attend for most of Saturday so I can get almost all of it done then.

(Sorry Sparrow, no additional pain killers here. For me, they never really killed the pain, they just took the sharp edge off it and made it bearable.)

I wonder whether offering a small discount for prompt payment would lead to an improvement?

I do offer a discount for prompt payment. There is also an option for fixed price for a set body of work. For some clients you just have to wait for their next crisis and then require them to pay all back and future fees prior to working on the current "crisis"
