Creating Collections

Hi everyone, I'm a newbie here and hoping for some advice/help.

I've used Calibre for a couple of years, but mainly to convert files to .epub, edit metadata and then send to my device (a Nook Color).

I have 900 e-books now and I'd like to manage them more effectively and create some Collections, but for the life of me I cannot figure out how to do this.

When my Nook Color is connected to Calibre I see a Collections row but there isn't anything in it and when I re-add a book to my Calibre Library to add Collection information to it, there is no Collection area to add to in the metadata.

Or even better would be a way to get 'My Shelves' on my Nook Color appear and be added to in Calibre. Is this possible?

Am I missing something totally obvious? Any help would be appreciated.

It is as I figured. I believe I did see this and I have begun the very slow process of adding books one by one to shelves. Ugh.
