Queen Z, you might try SONY noise canceling headphones. MY over the ear ones cost $150, 5 years ago. They are not wireless, but they don't have to have a signal to cancel noise. You just get the sound of silence (pun not intended). Well, mostly silence. Nothing's perfect. (They take a AAA battery.)

Just don't go too beserk
![]() After reading your comment in the tinnitus thread: "sometimes at night i hear a very high-pitched tone" - this struck a chord: http://www.headphone.com/headroom/po...-your-hearing/ "Now, don’t fool yourself into thinking that you either have full-blown tinnitus or you don’t have it at all—you can get a slight case. For example, you might only notice your ears ringing in bed at night. Once you have a slight case of tinnitus, your ears are much more susceptible to further damage. So, if you get tinnitus, it’s important to be much more careful about exposure to loud sounds." |

i bet you if i DO have tinnitus i got it from those damned shums (directly or indirectly). i don't hear that high-pitched tone all the time ; just occasionally (it's a lucky thing, because it's REALLY annoying). so i don't know whether it is a case of minor tinnitis or just some kind of electrical whine that is not actually inside my head. i still am looking for noise cancelling wireless headphones though, if anyone has a recommendation. i'll be careful not to turn them up too loud (i already am). |

Something else you should be aware of concerning "noise cancellation", true noise cancellation is done only for pure sine wave noise (or combinations of pure sine wave noises), The way it does this is by generating an exact duplicate of the sine wave but 180 degrees out of phase. It works very well for things like airplane engine noise but not so well for things like normal conversation.
I actually used mine on an airplane when the engines were running to help me hear the stewardess with her safety speech (at least until she made me take them off so I would hear her). She never understood that I could understand her better with them on because the engine noise was mostly canceled. The ones I have are the Bose noise cancellation ones for $300 (the ones just before they came out with the ones that can be fold 90 degrees for easier packing. They are completely over the ear type. All that being said, they do help "muffle" the lunch crowd noise, and my music helps drown out most of the chatter that gets through. |

http://www.headphone.com/products/he...ser-rs-140.php "although the RS140 would not be a headphone for demanding audiophile types, it could be a good candidate for folks looking for external/ ambient noise suppression and quite acceptable wireless sound" (I've used wired Sennheisers and liked them a lot.) |

I would be tempted to make the courtyard an unpleasant place for children. Sneak out at night and paint it with that anti-burglar paint that doesn't dry. Or scatter it with broken bottles. Or get Taylor in to scare them. Perhaps he could make them do remedial lessons or something.

I'm actually quite good with children. I'd have them all playing one game (rather than a million different ones) in no time, or inventing stories, or organized sidewalk chalk painting. Though for my Queen, I'd play the pied piper and lead them all off lock-step double-time to the absolute elsewhere.
