No page buttons. As nice as the new touchscreen is, I quite liked resting my thumb on the screen on my KK. Now I can't do that. Would like the option of page buttons. But I guess it wouldn't work anyway even if it did have page buttons, because you still need to touch the screen to lookup a word or highlight text.

Forgot to mention in my review that battery life doesn't seem so good. Although this could be related to indexing. I only tend to add one book at a time, but when I got my PW I added about 10.

I do think amazon were silly to call it a paperwhite, because some people would expect it to be paperwhite and evenly lit. However at the same time despite the advertising hype I was not expecting an evenly lit or pure white screen simply due to the nature of the device. I was expecting an improvement on clip on lights\lighted cases and that is what I got. I would agree about the battery life, so far I think it will be about the same as my kindle keyboard, which is good enough but not as advertised. However I added about 300 books from my archive in one go and when I took it off the charger there were still 100 books that hadn't been archived so will have to do another full charge before I can see how good the battery life really is.

That's a nice summary, and those are similar to the concerns I have. If it had been as brilliant as Amazon advertised it was going to be, then they probably wouldn't have mattered, but it's not.

So, no page turn buttons, questionable battery life, inability to turn the light off, light source not quite as advertised, still weighty despite it being smaller & less storage space than my Kindle 3. Along with the fact there are also issues with colour hues on the screen makes it pretty certain that I'll probably just be sticking with my Kindle 3 for now.

I'm more tempted by the Kobo Glo at the moment as it least it doesn't have problems with the screen discolouration, but it has it's own issues too. Bright pixels, possible blue tinge to the light, lowest light setting not low enough, and also no page turn buttons & questionable battery life, though most importantly, it's not backed up by Amazon's support.

Thanks for your reply, neonbible. All good points. My biggest issue has been the color hues, but I agree the battery doesn't seem all that great so far.

I am really pleased with my Paperwhite. I had previously read comments from across the pond about light distribution so therefore was not disappointed.

My wife is really pleased has she gets an additional 2 hours sleep at night when I am reading in bed.

Aesthetically and ergonomically I find the thinner bezel much more comfortable than the fairly deep recessed bezel of the `touch`it is much nearer to the original kindle keyboard 3g, the reading surface feels much `flatter` for it.

I am finding that I can read in areas of rooms with poorer light much easier with LED support.

The touch screen is also so much more responsive than the touch.Also the new firmware\software is better albeit `aeroplane`mode is a big step back from wifi on or off.

Glad I preordered, the expected delivery date in the UK is now week commencing December 17th.

Just received my UK Kindle PW. You can see the separate bottom lights with the light turned up full, but that's a mile better than using my K4 NT with built in light on the Amazon leather cover.

With light down to about half, it's wonderful. Looks like black text on white background. Thrilled with it.
Either I'm very fortunate, or a lot of people are being over picky.

Was looking at the UK Kindle PW in Waterstones it did not seem to work as fast as the kindle Keyboard . Not very impressed with it. Liked the Kindle Fire very vast easy to use. Ideal for travelling if you don't want to take an Laptop or larger tablet with you.

The PW is much faster than the K3 or the Touch. This is evident if you do a search, for example.

That's strange. I have a Kindle Keyboard and was very impressed with how quick the page turns, menu selection etc was on the demo Paperwhite I tried in Waterstones. The Kindle Touch didn't feel anywhere near as quick as my Kindle Keyboard, but the PW seemed pretty good. Absolutely nothing beats the side turn page buttons of the Kindle 3 & 4 for me though....

I have all three devices (paperwhite, touch and keyboard). The kindle keyboard is the slowest by quite a margin. The paperwhite is noticibly faster than the touch.
