I've never been charged for a pre-order freebie...unfortunately they want a cc for pre-orders.

You wont. I've never been charged for a free pre-order. They just need a CC for some reason.

Nevermind, I had brain flatulance and misread the Harlequin discount as Amazon ebooks.????? That 6am bloodwork I'm having done tomorrow must be getting to me. LOL At least I have plenty of material to read on my Kindle for the wait at both the lab and at my doctor's in the afternoon.

I'm headed to bed so I don't get any hungrier (fasting bloodwork), and before I make any more funny mistakes.

Looks like they a doing a new Authors feature this month. The problem is they are new so before choosing read the excerpts. I don't want to be stuck with another dud like The Officer Says I Do.

Enslaved by Elisabeth Naughton is #5 in her Eternal Guardian series. It's very highly rated at Goodreads: 94 ratings - 4.43 out of 5 stars. I picked up Marked (#1 in the series) as a freebie at Smashwords on October 9, but it's still buried in the TBR pile.

Edit: After researching all the selections, I'm going with Enslaved. The problem with that is I'll have to get numbers 2, 3, and 4 now.

My library carries the series so if I ever want to read them. I can get them that way. I read all excerpts and Goodreads reviews. I'm thinking the wilful wife one will be my pick.

I looked at Royal pain and the writing style was a bit hard to follow. The Navy Seal one's writing seemed not polished enough but the historical grabbed me right away.

The CC requirement is just lazy programming (not to check for a zero price) and a remnant of their pre-digital (and free) pre-order system.

That said, it's easy enough for most to pick up a pre-paid card (or generate a single use card from Citibank) and use that as your Kindle credit card.

I've also received Visa cards for bonuses from our phone company (now they do Amazon gift cards), which Amazon accepts as a credit card without an issue.

In addition to this, if you have a credit card on your Amazon account for any other reason, they will not ask for info for a Kindle pre-order, since they have card info on file already.
