Lentil Soup in one cup and Blue Spring Oolong. Schools are already closing for Monday and Tuesday due to Hurricane Sandy, which means Dad stays home with Lucas since Mom just started a new job.

Great, you get to go to work in this mess. Sigh. I understand, but doesn't seem fair.
Foggy today, but the rain has let up a bit. A big mug of Peet's Major Dickason's coffee and a Sunday morning lie-in. Then your basic American breakfast, but done right -- eggs from my chickens, fresh squeezed OJ, bacon I cured and smoked, and toast from bread my DW made, spread with local honey. Now, for a big mug of Peet's Scottish Breakfast tea. |

Ug, reading about that cold, greasy breakfast of eggs etc, made me decide to just do toast today.
![]() Charlie, I envy you your fresh goods. We grew up doing the same, but now we don't have the space or ordinances to grow or raise our own things now; just small gardens. My two brothers live in areas where they can, so I benefit from some of the beef, eggs, almonds, apples, berries, and etc. A big cup of double chocolate coffee in my mug to go with my toast. ![]() |

Hot capuccino in my cup.
I know what you mean about allowing some backyard chickens. Just a few houses away they are allowed and across the street, but my small pocket of homes were built with the restriction. It makes no sense, especially with a dairy farm, peach and almond orchards across the way. |

![]() I'm standin' here outside your door I hate to wake you up to say goodbye But the dawn is breakin' it's early morn The taxi's waitin' he's blowin' his horn Already I'm so lonesome I could die So kiss me and smile for me Tell me that you'll wait for me Hold me like you'll never let me go Cause I'm leavin' on a jet plane Don't know when I'll be back again Oh baby, I hate to go ![]() ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QPtGu...eature=related ) Good morning, everyone. Happy Monday! The start of a new week and I'm ready for it. I've got most of my gear packed, both clothing and camera... almost too much to fit on my bike but I'll manage. But first breakfast... Tea today is Twinings "Prince of Wales" and some fresh French bread, toasted but not buttered. I haven't had any bread in a long time, so this is really a treat. I'm off to the library today to see if I can find some old maps of the area that I'll be in this week. I'd like to find some old paths between rural seacoast villages. These little remote fishing villages were basically cut off from each other except via boat because the coastal mountains are so steep, but I have a feeling there must have been 'some' foot traffic between some of them. And if there is an old path over the mountains there WILL be an old shrine at the summit (that's typically Japanese) and I'd like to photograph some. If you zoom in using GoogleEarth to the coastal area of the Sea of Japan on Honshu's northern side, you can see teeny little villages ( 35°32'24.49"N 135°43'9.28"E for one and 35°32'22.06"N 135°44'40.76"E for the other, for example) with their own rice paddies, separated from each other by towering mountains. They may only be a few kilometers apart as the crow flies, but would have been almost totally inaccessible except by sea back in the old days. But nobody leaves themselves without a 'back door' for emergencies (like pirates) so I'm going to try and find some of these... Stitchawl |

So looks like Sandy going to bring the smack down on our N.E. USA members! Stay safe, and remember an inflatable mattress can double as boat in a pinch!

most backyard chicken farmers are only interested in the eggs and wouldn't have the first clue as to what to do about prepping ms. chicken for sunday night dinner
