Nope they are not. The K4B is lighter in background and has very black text. The K4S is more grey background and the text isn't as black. There are several threads here with people who posts pics showing both units together. Right now the K4B has the best contrast of the Kindles being sold with the K3 coming in at a very close second. Some threads to check of others who own both colors. Check out this thread and this one and mine own here Last edited by Blossom; 10-26-2012 at 01:20 PM. |

It's sneaky. Everyone who has gotten one locally had to ask for a black one which they have in the back.

Going to Petsmart today, next to a BB, so I am going to check again if they are putting them on display. Seeing one in the box would not help.

You probably have to buy one then take it back if you don't like it. I say you will love it though. The black is so much nicer looking, better contrast, lighter background and the page buttons aren't stiff so great for one hand turning. It has a nicer back too.

When I bought the black one in BestBuy Tuesday before last (Oct. 16), they only had the black one on display and in the clear cases that you pick up to buy.

When someone on this forum posts a question about a specific model we know which one they are talking about immediately because we are uniform and consistent in our model nickname usage. Of course on this forum we tend to give good answers too, whereas as over there they are often totally clueless. Different forums altogether. I think a large number of their members are self-published authors trying to promote their books. Anyone can self-publish, but actually selling a dozen copies doesn't make them an author. Their forum is basically run by a handful of people who are more interested in social chatter than Kindles. |
