Is it just me or does this product seem more like an iPod Maxi than an iPad Mini?

This. iPad 2 sales have been very strong in education; a smaller, cheaper version of the same thing, running the same apps, should do very nicely in that sector. The surprise, for me, was that the Mini hasn't replaced the iPad 2. Yet.

Re. pricing; if all you want is a colour ereader with a few tablet-ey functions tacked on, then there are cheaper options available, especially if you live in the US. But if your needs are more specific - 32Gb with 3G and GPS, say - then the mini ticks the boxes, albeit at a price. Whether it's a price worth paying is down to the individual.

Re. resolution; yes, it's a bit 2011. But <shocker> it's an iPad 2 that's been run through a shrink-ometer, so go figure. Ditto for RAM. And it's a pretty safe bet that there'll be a 'retina' mini 2 next year, no?

Was waiting for the announcement before I got a smaller tablet, unfortunately I wasn't impressed with the price so I think I'll end up with a nexus 7 after the upgrade
