Wonder what would happen if DropBox/other cloud storage have another security slip up and someone steals some of your ebooks, uploads those to a piracy site and Amazon closes your account (assuming there's some kind of watermark in the books)

Based on the previous few threads we've had on Amazon closing accounts, customer services refuse to give any kind of details as to why. Without knowing it's because your books have been shared on pirate sites, there's no way you could work out how that could have happened and show that it was not your fault. Or a victim of identity theft used to open another Amazon account that is used for dodgy purposes and eventually closed, followed by the closure of your account as it's "linked" to another banned account. Granted, unlikely scenarios, but mistakes can and do happen and unless you know why you've had an account closed and some details surrounding the issue, there's no way you can show that a mistake has been made. If customer services are that blunt and unhelpful, you're left with no options and that's the part I find concerning regardless of whether the involved person really has or has not broken amazons T&C. If you're told what it is you've broken and you know you have, fair enough. If you're not told then how do you know whether a mistake has been made or that you've broken T&C and should just accept the closure. |

Calibre is on my hard drive, which I then back up to DropBox and periodically backed up to an external drive.

My Calibre Library is on Dropbox as well. I started backing it up there after I realized it was too big for discs anymore. I also back it up to my external but I need two to three backups to feel safe. I use a simple sync program to keep all locations up to date.

 1. I find Dropbox too expensive, so I use Microsoft SkyDrive instead of Dropbox. 2. I don't backup my SkyDrive account to other media. I have Calibre installed on two separate computers, both of which has mirrors of my SkyDrive, which basically means there's at all times three separate copies of my library: 1) SkyDrive, 2) My PC laptop, 3) My Mac desktop. That's enough backups for me. |

Is this true? I actually have room in the Amazon cloud, but didn't think it was a good idea to store books that had the DRM removed on their servers.

Oh well. Hopefully, the next post won't be that my account has been closed, although I do have enough books to last me. It is everything else I buy and the movies I would miss.

I have my Calibre Library on my desktop and synced to both DropBox and Box. I haven't, as of yet, gone through and added all my Kindle ebooks that are stored at Amazon. It seems like a lot of work for not much, if any, return.

The initial backup to Dropbox or Box does take a while depending on the size of your library and the speed of your internet connection. I just synced to Box yesterday and it took a couple hours to upload the whole thing. |

Then each time it syncs it took 2 Days and each time I add a file it took hours to update the index. ![]() Dropbox took 3 hours to upload 8GB so I have no complaints. It syncs in under a minute and it isn't a hog on my resources. Dropbox isn't expensive. I've never paid a penny. I have 19GB of space that I got mostly through their referral program. I do it a bit differently I sync my Calibre library from it's original location to my Dropbox using a sync program. This is due to me losing two hard drives in the last year. My main library is on my external. I take no chances. |

Gah, Box isn't working the way I thought it would. I wanted to update one Calibre Library and have it synched to both Box and Dropbox, but it seems each program only wants to sync what is in it's own directory, so I'd have to manually maintain two separate Calibre libraries.

I'm not sure there's any automatic way to do what I wanted. |

![]() Blossom how do you get your books to your Fire, one at a time? Since Calibre developer sent me to his link that says Kindle new products are not compatible with Calibre I assumed he meant the Paperwhite too. I posted in the Calibre section about it not seeing my KFHD (On Mac). I ordered a PW and hope it will work on my Calibre setup. I don't want to have to mess around with loading it on Dropbox unless I become more educated on the whole subject.

			So my two cents:

I started with SugarSync (due to the cost) however, when I found out that I couldn't do calibre2opds catalog I immediately switched over to Dropbox. I really like this feature and it made the decision to switch easy. I have Calibre on both my Macbook and Windows desktop. Once I upload a book to Calibre it automatically uploads to Dropbox and keeps Calibre in sync which is GREAT! I really struggled with this before as I would have to add one book in both places, now with Dropbox, add it once and I can access it everywhere. I back up my Calibre library to once a week to an external hard drive. |
