Reader with the best dictionaries?

I am absolutely no friend of touch screens and I am in the group that thinks that current ebook reader makers should not omit the buttons but dictionary lookup is one of the things where touch screens really are vastly superior to buttons. Believe me, if you had the choice and both possibilities on your reader you would never use the buttons for dictionary lookup.

I have the same kind of dictionaries on the Cybook Gen3 and I use them very often. From the content I am very satisfied, the handling, hm, after many many clicks with the buttons you have reached the word you want to have translated.

I honestly would recommend that you try it. I was sceptical about touch screens before getting my Kindle Touch, but I'm a convert. The touch screen really does work extremely well, and does not show fingerprints at all (that was one of my main concerns about using a touch screen).

Sorry to hijack the thread but I was just wondering, how do the dictionaries for other e-readers than Kindle work? Do they all work by simply moving the cursor to a word to get a translation?

And does anyone know if any of these can translate Chinese well? I know the Kindle has Duokan that does pretty well translating Chinese but I don't know how well it does it and if it works the same way as the normal Kindle software's dictionary does. Does anyone else know?

Most touch readers work by tapping or double-tapping the word. If you don't have a touch screen you have to move the cursor to the word but before that you have to open the dictionary application. At the iRiver Story HD you open the dictionary program and then type in the word you want to translate. So, it's really much easier with a touch screen.

Thanks for the infos! You guys make the touch scren sound really good. :x Also, this dictionary looks great - whatever way I go, I'll probably use it, since I'm still very much in the progress of learning German.

If I had the opportunity, I'd most certainly try it. The problem is that none of my friends own one and there are no official distributorts of the Kindles in my country, so that only way to try it would be to order one and my budget is way too low to order something without being absolutely certain.

Ok, this is what I want.

What I don't want is having to open up a new program and write the word to get a translation. I'd probably get tired of that really quickly, since pretty much all I would use my reader for is learning foreign languages.

Can you link right into the translation from the reading material, say if you added a Latin-English dictionary to the Kindle, or do you have to leave your book and open up the non-standard dictionary?
