I lied on my KoboBooks.com account

This is for Kobo staff. I deliberately lied when I initially filled out my account information on the website.

You have *NO* need to know my birth date. I do not know why you even want it as it is none of your business. All you should care about is my method of payment works.

I will continue to lie. Indeed, with a certain amount of glee, I will change my birth year every time I visit that page on the website. The month and day is set to 1 and 1 of course.

If you choose to cancel my account so be it. On the next update I perform you can remove all my purchased Kobo epubs from my devices and refund my money.

Maybe to send you a nice " Happy Birthday" card? Or a book as a gift?

Given other changes over the last year to the site and the firmware, it is most likely for the sake of gathering marketing data.

Seriously if supplying kobo with your birthdate is causing you so much angst perhaps you would be better off closing your kobo account and purchasing your ebooks elsewhere. Or simply entering an alternative date and not worrying about it.

Personally I am with ashan and am hoping for at least a happy birthday email from kobo - if I'm really lucky it will include a special birthday discount code.

I'm certain part of the reason is for marketing statistics, but it could be a safety feature also. Just in case someone tries to steal your account, the rep could ask you your birthday for verification.

That's part of the reason I ended up deleting the Kobo app and closing my account…

1) They could've just asked for my birth year
2) Why is it a requirement?

Because
1) I like being a bit of a **** disturber
2) This actually is a serious question. I would like to know why Kobo feel they need my birth date.

Oh yeah, and I lied on Facebook too of course. Mind you on FB make sure you don't set it for less than 14 years, preferable 18, otherwise you will either require parental permission to setup a FB account or be denied an account at all. (Now how you verify that someone is a parent on FB I have no idea.)

My pay as you go cell phone company lets me make unlimited free local calls on Jan 1. Never mind that I can make unlimited free local calls on my copper land line all year and long distance on the copper land line is so cheap these days it might as well be free.

They lose money on me. I throw in $100 per year and, usually, have lots left over a year later.

I lied by default....I ignored the date of birth field and when I logged into my account to ensure that the one click buying option was not checked ( it was and I changed it) I noticed that my DOB was 1/1/99....that's fine with me, saw no reason to change it:-)
PS My credit card detail are expired so that is also good as I use paypal.

Just don't plan any travel across the Canadian border. I hear the RCMP really prioritise the prosecution of people who commit this kind of heinous crime...

Actually, only the name fields are required. (not that I gave a real name when turning off that Quick Buy crap)

That's funny. I had a colleague at work who's very distrustful of anything on the net but since he was hearing so much about Facebook, he finally decided to open a FB account. However he used a fake name and fake identity! The next thing you know, he's complaining that there is NOBODY on FB as he have no one wanting to be friends with him Duh, of course, nobody knows who he is ! As he still didn't want to reveal his identity he finally closed off his account realizing it's absolutely worthless to be anonymous on FB...
