ooh, thanks, i'll stop by. can't wait for the firmware "enhancement", that's going to come in handy since i am chronically late. if i arrive before i've left, i should manage to get there just on time.

Oh...yes...I forgot...we talked about my lapsed and lost Catholicism during one of our sessions (i.e. pub crawls), didn't we? I hope this doesn't turn out like last time. It was 106 miles to Noosa Heads, me and Adrian had a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it was dark, and we were wearing sunglasses. Boy, that didn't turn out well (By all the gods and devils, I hates that Minnie the Moocher crap).

Marc, just curious but do you know where else (in the English speaking world) other than Australia & the UK, the term "spanner" is used as you used it. I know in the US we use the term "wrench". Don't know about Canada or any others.

I don't really know. Since I see reference online to it being "Chiefly British", I would guess, as you have, that Canada is a possibility, and then also guess at New Zealand and South Africa, which also often share similar terminology (for example, knowing what a "shandy" is, even if they make them differently).

For what it's worth (very little of relevance), a favourite seafood item is the spanner crab, and Sidchrome (Australian tool manufacturer) has the motto "You canna hand a man a grander spanner".

We use wrench in Canada as well. I've seen spanner used in World of Warcraft though so it must be the universal term.

We call lobsters "lobsters", but our "lobsters" look like this (<---Wikipedia linky). Despite what it says, trust me, the menu rarely says "crayfish" - it says "lobster". They can be big buggers (<---image linky), but with no real claws worth worrying about. It's a rich and delicious meat, and you pay for it.

Okay, so "sea bugs"...We have Moreton Bay Bugs and Balmain Bugs (the latter are actually an imported off-shoot of the former). You can see them here (<---Wikipedia linky).

We also have craybobs/yabbies/freshwater crayfish. You can see them here (<---Wikipedia linky). The really good eatin' ones are the Marron (<---Wikipedia linky) - "good eatin'" such that price will generally find them only in half-decent restaurants.

On Sunday mornings we get up early and walk to the local Farmer's Markets a couple of kilometres down the road and buy our "fresh food" for the week from the local growers and suppliers. I don't know for some reason I would prefer to take my chances with the sharks. I've never heard of a shark just picking the low hanging fruit but those crustaceans look like they live for it.

I'm still upset with that shark that let Ryan Seacrest get away. That Poseidon lobster doesn't look like it would let go. Maybe you could invite him to Australia for a nice seafood dinner.
