On Basilisk Station. Finally decided to just quit fighting it and go to the dark side. My bank account may never recover. |

The book I am reading now till I finish it is Assassin's Apprentice by Robin Hobb. It's not all that action packed. But I like the way she writes and I like her characters.

So far, and I'm not very far into it, she is failing miserably. It has a lot of action scenes, but there is quite a bit of character dev going on.

Finished re-reading Brust's Orca and C.J. Cherryh's Rimrunners. (Interesting contrast.) Re-reading early volumes of Gantz (a manga).

FINISHED: The Onnuissance Cells by Steve Jordan HIGHLY RECOMMEND. This book is lots of fun! Again and again, the underdog comes out on top. The book is a series of short stories about average people who overcome obstacles in creative ways and learn more about themselves in the process, all tied together by their connection to a police (Peace Keeper) unit. CURRENTLY READING: In the Garden of Iden by Kage Baker (TOR freebie) So far, I love it! |

Well, I've been a busy little reader (Reader?). I finished Accelerando, which messed with my head a bit (OK, a lot), then Madame Bovary (whom I had very little patience with or sympathy for, although I think that's the point) and am on the last lap of Celtic Fairy Tales (which was interesting, particularly as I think was strongly flavoured by the period and that a modern interpretation/translation of some of the tales might look a bit different). Moving onto Doctorow's I, Robot that I got with the Cybook next, and then probably some of the Tor stuff. At this rate I won't have to buy a book this year! |

Hi all, I got a CyBook about a month ago, so I'm mostly reading free ebooks at the moment. After more or less working my way through the crap (most of it, IMHO) the CyBook came loaded with, I re-read most of Jane Austen, and then started downloading more stuff than I can read Right now I am reading 20,000 leagues under the sea, one of the Tor freebies (thanks to the forum I got there just in time to download all of them) "A shadow in summer" and Swann's way. I like them all, A shadow in summer is the one I read most often, the Jules Verne is funny and interesting, and Proust is fascinating but I'm finding it hard to keep reading it, too many distractions Florence |

You might be better off to give your copy of I Robot a miss. Instead download Overclocked Stories of the Future Present which is a collection of short stories from Cory Doctorow and it includes I Robot. https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13606 |

Just finished Final Theory by Marl Alpert. Very promising premise; combining science and a mystery thriller. The author did tend to let his political correctness get in the way occasionally but, in spite of that, it was a decent read.

Hi All, Finished _The Disunited States of America_. I liked it. Will probably look at some of the other Crosstime Traffic books in time. Started reading _Orphans of Chaos_... this is a bit weird one... but it is keeping my interest. I've never really followed greek mythology much. BTW: I have started adding a tag to my books in library thing as to when I read it. I use a three letter month and then two numbers year. So, all the books I read in july I tag jul08. I know I don't read as much as Elsie, but at least I will be able to know how many and in what format I've read so far. To see my library (books I've read and a few taged toread that I haven't read).... check out http://www.librarything.com/catalog/PilotBob or to see my tags click on the tags buttons. BOb |

FINISHED READING: In the Garden of Iden by Kage Baker(a TOR freebie) SPOILER ALERT!!! Until recently, I had never heard of Kage Baker. Then I read a few short stories by Baker which were really good. Then I found out that one of his stories is nominated for a Hugo award. So, when TOR gave this book away, it was sort of a special bonus. My expectations going in were high, and it did not disappoint me. However, this book may not be to everyone's taste. The theme of the book is a romance, with the scifi tossed in to mystery it up a bit. Spoiler:
In all, I enjoyed this book very much, even if the ending was not quite right. It's my second-favorite of the TOR books, behind Mistborn. Last edited by DixieGal; 08-04-2008 at 11:00 AM. |

Reminder: we have a "spoiler text" function. Use the "Advanced" reply option and click the "circle-slash-eyeball" button to hide your text from those for whom it might lessen the reading experience. Meanwhile, I'm re-reading Pratchett's Witches Abroad. I remembered that I enjoyed this quite a bit on the first read, but not that it was so philosophical. Possibly the best of the "Witches" Discworld stories (not counting the Tiffany Aching stories. ) |
