A queue of people waiting in line outside a store that is about to release a new iPhone and you seriously suggest that another person has no idea why those people are there? Do you think that they are lost? Do you suppose that they all just got tired and are standing there catching their breath? Are they compulsive queue joiners and can't help themselves?

Many people pay a lot more for products, and may have to wait weeks if not months for delivery but they don't queue on a public street.

These queued up customers more than likely have a great deal of their self esteem tied up in owning what they perceive to be a status symbol like a special shoe or a front row seat at the game. I mean by that a large amount of status is really cheap if you can buy it for $600 or so.
What does a Cadillac Escalade cost? I would hang out in Death Valley a couple of weeks with just water bottles and an umbrella to get an Escalade for $600.

They are certainly trying to impress someone even if it is only themselves.

But hey, I wish I had something they would line up to buy.

Yep, i don't like any of those companies either, and do not partake of their goods if I can help it. But whats so particularly insidious about Apple, is the incredible brainwashing they've performed on the American population, to such an extent that there was almost a national outpouring of grief at Steve Job's death, as though he were some kind of saint or something. Newspapers lauded his many achievements. Listening to the fans you'd think that he'd reinvented the wheel, was the most influential man ever in the history of music, the greatest inventor since edison... ect. ect. Oh and their products are so green! You can buy as many as you like and your actually doing the environment a favor! The advertising and brainwashing is relentless... and now whats horrible is that this has set a precedent for the Pepsis and Nestles of the world to follow suit! They'll be at it now, and we'll be hearing about the CEO of Mcdonalds actually saved third world countries from starvation!

For God's sake!! Its madness.
