Considering a Kindle Fire
Right now I have a Sony reader and am considering the Kindle Fire. Does anyone know if I can download the Sony app on the Kindle so I can read the books I have (well over 400) on the Fire?

not specificly the sony reader app, but you can download some other Epub Readers like moon+ reader, and sideload the Sony epub books over, its not quite as simple to sideload them as with other android devices but there are many here that do that kind of thing and searching closely you will find help on how do sideload (i have never tried it since all 800 of my books are kindle format) perhaps jessica lares here can help you, she seems to be a bit more knowledgeable about kindle fires than most i se on here

The Kindle Fire HD is more locked down than the first gen Kindle Fire. Some apps that I was able to sideload on the 1G KF, refuse to install or run correctly on the KFHD.
At this point I don't know if it is an accidental or deliberate move by Amazon, nor do I know if the updated KF will experience the same, but it is worth proceeding with caution until more details are revealed. |

My Samsung GTab 2 7.0 also running 4.0 was able to run the apps that refused to run on the Fire HD. Still doesn't rule out differences in the OS but narrows it down a bit. |

Logos Android Bible also has problems.

http://community.logos.com/forums/t/54538.aspx Here was the Logos comment on the new requirements: "After checking out Amazon's updated Kindle Fire Development guide it does appear they added some additional qualifiers to be eligible as an "HD App". There's still hope that with some minor tweaks we can get the app available on the new Kindle Fire HD series of devices without needing to sideload and we'll do what we can to make that happen." I'm getting my Kindle Fire HD 32 Gb on Oct 25. Hopefully, Logos will make the required adjustments by then to be able to install it from the Amazon App Store without a problem. |

Thank you for that info... Logos was on my list of apps to install.
On a side note, I managed to sideload Komik 1.24 (cbz/cbr reader) and it works beautifully. The high quality of the screen certainly makes reading comics (and scans of old magazines and catalogs) enjoyable on a 7" device. |

I don't get my HD until November, so I apologize in advance since I don't have the device in hand.
Some of it might have to do with permissions and things Amazon forbids apps to have, like push notifications now. |

The procedure is already been posted on androidpoice.com and linked on the News forum of this board.
Ain't that wrong?? ![]() I don't know how difficult it is but I would attempt it and get the KFHD tomorrow trading in my old one to Best Buy. |
