Corrupt memory is the normal reason for losing or not being able to set bookmarks.

Judging from many cases of memory getting corrupted with all safety measures for mounting/unmounting USB drives in place, I'd say Cybook firmware has bugs/instabilities in it which lead to random memory corruption issues.

chkdsk results...
f: drive, two books with file allocation errors, one of these cross-linked.
g: drive, no errors detected.

when one charges the battery via a pc, one gets the option, ofc, to dismount safely; with a connection direct to a charger, one doesn't...

That is because the USB-drive of your PC is able to write things to your ereaders memory, your charger can't do that...

may be so, but the same usb port gets used on the cybook...

i'm just trying to find reasons so that it doesn't happen again ...

That is correct. But with a charger only the 2 power wires are used. Not the two data lines.

When connected to the computer all four lines are used, data and power.

BTW some people seem to have thes problems a lot. Some, like me, almost never have them. I never use the 'safely disconnect hardware'

So you think that a change in voltage on the USB-port is able to corrupt the memory of the ereader.
I'm no hardware specialist, but when I see how much electronic equipment is being charged by a usb-port nowadays I doubt it.

Aye, but then again...

It's also beyond me to ken why book files should get corrupted and this is enough to cause a potential 'freeze-up' of the cybook (where my PC didn't recognise it [without me kicking it])... these said book files were not related to the books I am currently reading.

The ONLY thing I'm doing to cause me problems, is charging...

I am not going to go into the possibility of 'cross-wires'.

However I have seen the results of high-speed data-links being connected up in-correctly and the catastrophic collapse of a government network...(no it wasn't me, despite the connection being needed by me!!)...(what came in was also re-routed back out to the same originator and hence a massive loop of data transfer)...

If you'd been following the posts you will see that I do have one - and use it more than the PC link...

I also bought a USB charger. Only use it. To download the books use a adapter USB/SD Card. Particularly I think more practical and believe that protects the cybook.

Can you elaborate? In what way does it "protect" the CyBook?
