Praise for the Kindle 4

Historically Amazon has sold the K1, K2, K3, and K4 by officially naming them the "Kindle" during the year they were the current models. Each new "Kindle" was different from the subsequent one, though it shared the same name. Your logic kind of falls apart when we see how each new device officially named "Kindle" was different and better than the preceding one. Therefore the expectation from consumers will be that this new "Kindle" is truly improved over the current "Kindle." This new "Kindle" is slightly different ( in color only) but has no improvement over the current "Kindle" and so the expectation from consumers will be false due to slick marketing.

I really like my K4 also. I came real close to ordering the PW several times, but couldn't press the buy button.

The K4 in its Amazon case fits in my back pocket and has a place in my car that it fits just right (extraneous reasons, but true).

The screen is good, readability is good, speed is faster than my K3g. It is comfortable in my hand. I like reading on it.

Another barrier to me for upgrading is the "new device hassle." Getting all your books, documents, etc. on the new Kindle to match what was on your old one. Having to learn the new device's software, quirks, and operation. It has happened to me a lot in the past with handhelds, ereaders, phones, etc. Is the new device really worth it for my day to day life or do I just want a new toy?

I'm staying with my K4 and hope I have the willpower to do so for awhile (stupid gadget addiction).

I'd just buy the 4th gen if it were me. You sound like you need a new one anyway. You can refurbished ones from Apple.

Yeah, that's what I'm going to do. I've been want to do that for months, but holding out in hopes of a newer version. So I'm gonna wait till Wednesday, to see what they announce, and if there's no iPod Touch, then I'm going straight to Amazon to order the 4th gen. I just hope they don't disappear off the site before I get a chance to order one. (the 64GB ones are $50 more in Apple's store) I noticed all the ipod nanos were suddenly out of stock on Amazon this week.

I was talking about the $69K. At the time of my post, Amazon had removed PPI information about it from the side by side comparison, so after their announcement, I thought that the $69 Kindle may have a higher screen resolution than he K4. Info is now back on the comparison page. I am wondering if the missing info was an oversight or not.

Nope. The display is 1024x758. Yes, that's a weird number, but it's true.
