I'm a musician, and my mp3 players were both Creative Zens, but I can see why most people went for iPods. Graham

Of course not it was their version of an MP3 and video player. Quote:
The orginal iPhone was yet another candy bar phone with a big screen added. It was inevitable, and they lucked out on the timing by a whole lot. IOS is a derivative of the open source Unix Darwin system, so they improved it, apparently quite a lot, but they did not innovate it. No, they might have been a lot better, but the evolution was inevitable. It was helped along by Apple but it was an evolution that would have happened anyway. I remember wishing for some of the things that eventually came to pass way back in the mid 90s. I was not an innovator then either.

No one said that. But in a world of square tires, the guy that chips off the rough edges to maake things work better really has innovated.

Oh pleaaaaaase don't post that thoroughly debunked image yet again. We've been round this loop in too many threads! Graham Last edited by WT Sharpe; 09-13-2012 at 01:55 PM. Reason: Changed oversized graphic to attached thumbnail. |

You are right about "present form" but smartphones and tablets would have existed and evolved with or without Apple, and there is no way to know now if that evolution might have been better without Apple's influence.

(Click to enlarge) I don't know about you, but that stuff in the "before" group sure looks like what I see most people using today. Amirite? Last edited by WT Sharpe; 09-13-2012 at 01:53 PM. Reason: Oversized graphic

But I will say, innovate <> blatantly copy either. Which I believe is the gist of what samsung was found guilty of doing. In terms of the Itunes store, Apple did what no one else was doing in terms of making legally purchased music available and putting a well thought out interface around it. Similar to the original napster only in you can search for music you like and dowload it. I honestly can't believe we have people talking about how android based phones have been innovative over the past year or 2, but then have people claiming the iphone itself was not innovative when it first launched. Come on.

I think some sort of NFC system will be the next big thing, but not everyone agrees: https://twitter.com/treestman/status/246092364345651200 Thats it for the cellphone. It's probably as good as it can be. Home video is next. |
