Less storage, no audio or TTS, and price increase by $20?. Also with light totally off, screen is still the same grey background as all other Kindle's, just better resolution. Very happy with my KTouch in a lighted cover, so will wait to see what is in store for next version. And of course LOVE my Galaxy Player 5.0 for taking on outings. Best size for purse. |

My wife has a nook. But she's taken a liking to audiobooks. Whispersync for Voice would be right up her alley. I may get her a PaperWhite to use with Audible on her phone.

No, the screen has 25% better contrast (that figure's from eInk themselves). Plus you also get a range of fonts, etc.

They throw around big numbers like that because the lit screen seems to have whiter whites, in reality the only advantage is the higher resolution. They even went as far as saying they expect people to always have the light on, even in brightly lit rooms, which is ludicrous. The light is basically there to hide the grayness. Sharpness is indeed much better but that alone probably isn't worth 139 $ to me. A reviewer on youtube who had them both in his hands also turned the light off and said "contrast looks about the same," so it's not just the camera not capturing the difference. For comparison, the improvement in contrast going from K2 to K3 was 50% The current improvement doesn't look to be anywhere near half that. Last edited by s4nder; 09-10-2012 at 11:34 AM. |

Sharpness and contrast are two different things but whatever, I've gone on long enough on the subject.

Contrast improvements are a quantitative figure measured with a photometer. In the photograph you kindly posted (thanks for doing so), the black on the PW looks "blacker" to me than on the other device, but that's very hard to judge by eye. That's why contrast improvements are measured quantitatively and not qualitatively.

so how much is the new storage space vs the old, Why was it reduced, if anything storage gets cheaer why don't these things have at least 4gb of space? Thats why I bought the Recently released Sony PRS-T2 I could stick a 32gb card in it, overkill yes but I had one sitting around.
