Also, I don't know how you guys used to read back in the old days. Not only you had to touch the paper, you also usually had to wet your finger in saliva to make the page move... you whine too much.
I read somewhere that the 8 weeks of battery life is in terms of 30 minutes of usage everyday

Yes. That is correct. They did have 8 months up accidentally for a while.

And 30 minutes? Really? C'mon Amazon, I read 2 hours or more a day. And my KK still lasts a month or more so I'm not complaining, but who reads just 30 minutes a day?

I know it's a troll post overall but I have to say:

No one has to wet their finger! That is the third grossest habit known to man! And if you're reading a library book, no only are you making everybody else touch your saliva, but you are sharing germs with all of the people who have inconsiderately licked their fingers before reading the book as well! I read paper books and I can turn the pages perfectly well without ever licking my fingers! If you are giving me money and you wet your finger first I won't even accept the money from you!

well, I guess you can still read 2 hours a day: just read the ammount of pages you can read in 30 minutes slowly. After all, with e-ink you only consume power on page turns, right?

You may take a look at the Sony T2. Yes, it has a touch screen but it has page turn buttons. So you will only have to use the touch screen for changing books and highlighting. Maybe if you use the stylus you won't mind the touch screen so much? The older Sony models had a space for the stylus built in but sadly the T1/T2 does not. The Nooks have page-turn buttons as well.

This is got to be one of the most annoying habits I've ever seen, next dog-earing and bending covers back. Aside from the sanitary aspect, applying wetness for traction is completely unnecessary. I've never understood why people don't just grab the page from the edge.

Eating and dropping food onto the pages while reading has all that beat for grossness in my opinion. I can't go on when I encounter old food in a library book.

Haha. It's my job to clean up and repair books at the library where I work. You should see some of the cr*p that I scrape out of kids' books.

Actually when you read a paperback, you generally don't need to turn the page. You hold the right side of the book so the thumb grasps the middle of the page, then with the pointer finger of your right hand, you just sort of press the back of the book and you relax the pressure on your thumb and viola, the page flips up ready for your left hand thumb to grab and place down.

At least that's how I read paperbacks, and using a Kindle with buttons is a lot closer to that than having to swipe.

But regardless of what people think, some people just prefer buttons. I hate, hate, hate touchscreens and am not going to buy a product that forces me to use them. If that's my only choice, I'm simply going to pass.

I do think it's more satisfying for me to turn the page using the buttons, but I do each half the time. It's nice to have both options open if I've a yen. In fact, the power went out last week and I had just plugged in my T1 to recharge and the 950 was also out of juice, so I went onto the patio with a citronella candle, plain candle(couldn't find a flashlight), and a real book. I think it's the first one I've cracked open to really read in a year. I kept wanting to swipe the pages like with the touchscreen, lol.

I want to say I can change margins with my Sony 950, but I've been in a bit of a rut with my T1 for the past 6 months and havn't touched it.

you're a true contortionist. "a turn of the wrist, a flip of the finger and voilá"

were you really whining for the absurd effort of lightly touching the corner of a screen?

Now that the KF8 update is out, I'd say the OP's best choice is certainly just to get a another KK.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the people on this board read more than the average person.
