Many gigabytes of storage on a card the size of a postage stamp, or in the case of a micro SD card, on a card the size of my pinkie fingernail. Floppies were obsolete, it was getting to point where you couldn't fit files onto floppies anymore. DVD drives aren't obsolete, but might be sacrificed to make the computer smaller. A tiny chip with gigabytes of storage? Not obsolete at all, there's nothing "defiling" about putting control of the files in the user's hands.

What about SIM card slot? Considering vast majority of Nokia's sold are GSM, so need a SIM card. CDMA is almost nonexistant outside of the US, and even still, in the US of the top 4 carriers, 2 of them use SIM cards. Can't be too sealed.

I don't really care about the SD card slot, but I do think that "defiled" is a pretty strange word to use. Like the Lumia is a holy relic and the slot an unclean leper.

Ouch, I almost totally agree with you there. "Defiled" is definitely a very strange word to use in regards to a phone's appearance.

I do care about an SD slot and replaceable battery, but that is just me. However, if all slots are eliminated that phone is definitely going to have very limited sales, because a SIM slot is required in most of the world. I tend to change carriers and pre-pay plans occasionally since I do not do contracts. That means that I need to change SIMs every time I do, so no slots at all is a definite no-go. I also know folks that have multiple devices for various occasions, so they just move the current SIM from phone to phone in their collection. To me, that means that once a means is found to include a SIM card in the design then including a micro SD slot is very simple to include as well.

IMHO, a missing micro SD slot is just an indication of sloppy design work and a means of cheapening the production cost of the device.

You are definitely over-simplifying the amount of design work that it might take to include a micro sd slot as there is obviously limited amounts of space in these overly thin phones and you would have to fit the reader somewhere that would keep it well away from any components that could heat up enough to disrupt its operation, but the stated reason for its omission is quite clearly idiotic.

I don't think that I even came close to mentioning the complexity of the design work, but just the cheapness of it? In any case, I really doubt that Nokia will continue to exist as an independent company much longer with a stock price of $2.64 per share.

My guess is that the phone companies have demanded that they leave that out. This way people will be tempted to sign up for more expensive contracts to have unlimited access to online storage.
