Glad that he is doing better. Does the infant Tylenol have a little plastic syringe? Our Dr. gave us a few when my son was small, so that we could squirt it in his cheek and it would be swallowed better (instead of spit up).
Congrats on a day of firsts! Lucas turned over and grasped his rattle. It is so exciting to see all their milestones.

Finishing up my morning coffee and thinking of heading out to the patio to read and enjoy the nice weather.

We have some pacifiers that allow you to medicine in them so he can suck in the medicine. My cousin recommended them. The Dr said to give him the Tylenol if his temperature got to 100.4 but it has stayed under that. He is sleeping on my chest in the basement. We relocated after the tornado warnings came on and one touched down in the area. The threat has passed but we are staying put for a while.

Regarding Lucas : I know you are probably more than fed up with my "supermomknowsitbetter" advices, but if he has a high fever, which some kids tend to have for no other reason than teething or growing spurts, bathing the baby in a bath at 37°C (some charitable soul please translate that to F) does the trick. If the fever spikes up again when you take the baby out of the bath, you should go to the emergency room. If not, you can wait a couple hours more before making a decision. In our case, petite princesse used to scare us that way, but since she was number two, I used that trick and ended up never having to go to the emergency room, but once or twice going to the paedetrician on the next day.

I am not tired of advice, I find most of it to be very helpful. We called the doctor to find out if there was a medicine we could give him. If so, when and how much should we give him. With his age we figured there would be little that we could give him. But getting advice from other parents has been helpful.

In my glass, a home brewed IPA. Good stuff

Yeah, in general you do not treat a 100 degree fever, but if it spikes you have to break it or seek help. My mom used an alcohol bath to break 104 fever I had as a child. I wonder if I got really drunk?

Doesn't the HD webcam benefit the recipients of your call rather than yourself? They get a better picture, but unless they have an HD as well, you get no improvements in your viewing?

It's the combination of the better camera and the better video card. It's true that one needs to have HD to see HD, but I guess the thing that has me so psyched up is the extremely high resolution that the HD webcam puts out. And now, having a 2G video card instead of 256M, I can see this difference... No more buffering needed! Smooth natural movements of the people I'm talking to, and better light handling and white balance, natural movements from me too, etc. When I use Skype, I see the person with whom I'm speaking, but I also see myself in the control panel for the camera. I can control the camera with my mouse, zooming in or out for emphasis when speaking, panning when talking about something in the room. Everything now has the feel of a talk-show conversation, rather than just speaking to a face on my monitor. It's more 'real,' more animated, more life-like.

My computer is old. I put it together the first time 7-8 years ago with what was considered good quality parts 'at that time.' But a video card with 250M can't compete with today's 2G and 3G cards. Think in terms of modems. I was happy back in the day when I upgraded to a 56K dial-up line. Slowly, new card by new card, new motherboard, new hard drives, etc., etc., etc. Next will be a new card to run the new USB 3 so I can get the full speed out of my 3T external drive! Maybe it's even time to switch to Windows 7....

Mostly true, but in Stitchawl's case, he also upgraded his video card at the same time. Ultimately, the quality of the picture is dependent on many factors, including the web cam, the processor, the RAM, the video card, and most importantly, the network bandwidth.

Today is a day to goof off and relax. I'll probably watch some golf while I work on a new jumper (sweater). And drink some tea, of course. But this morning, I"m going to start off with coffee. Peet's Major Dickason's.

I can see clearly now
I can see clearly now the rain has gone
I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind
It’s going to be a bright, bright sunshiny day

Good morning, everyone! Taylor's "English Breakfast" tea beside me, a teeny tiny bowl of rice with some slices of chicken and a few chunks of daikon for breakfast, then I'm on my way again. I took a 5k walk yesterday along the side of Kyoto, visiting one of my favorite temple areas. I must have shot well over 500 photos... temples, people, patterns... Got some new photos of Geisha, Maiko, and as new fad that has taken hold in Japan... "Dress Up!" People rent Maiko and Samurai costumes and make-up, and go strolling the streets letting people take photos of them. Some of them look really convincing too. Others... well... let's just say I hope they are having a good time. I'm hoping I got 10-20 'keeper' photos out of the bunch. The lighting was pretty difficult, but Photoshop is my friend.

And all this walking around that I've been doing every day is dropping my weight faster than I ever thought possible (Kyoto is hilly) and today I'm going back one size on my pants! Yippee!

I put in a Logitech HD Webcam C615 camera, which is by no means top of the line stuff (those sell for $150-$300,) and for a video board an NVidia Geforce that looks like this one. They seem to sell different models here in Japan. It requires two panel openings but only one board slot.

I have the Microsoft Lifecam 5000. Don't have a clue what it cost, but they're cheap. And it's worked flawlessly.

Finishing up the last of a bottle of La Frenz Chardonnay. At $20 CAD, an absolute bargain.

The webcam is £45.00 on Amazon, which looks like a good price compared to other outlets (over £60.00). I need to buy a new one as middle daughter keeps pinching mine as hers is broken - hadn't considered an HD until you mentioned it. She can have my old one .

I have been looking at new video cards recently as well. I have a GeForce GTX 280 installed, which has done a pretty good job to date, but some of the new games, particularly, are demanding greater performance. I can't find the GeForce GT 645 for sale here, but I am certainly considering one of the NVIDIA GeForce cards.

That's a more affordable £26.00 on Amazon, and could well be a contender .

That's about the price I paid for it here... ¥5700. And that was down in the computer district where the cheaper prices can be found. But everything tends to be more expensive here. I could have ordered from Amazon, but then I have to add in the shipping charges.

My research led me to look for something that had at least 2G of on-board memory and a large cooling system. The one I bought has its fan ducted directly to the outside of the tower! The 3G units came with liquid cooled radiators and were considerably more expensive! I guess the one I got cost about $125 USD... But I figure I use the computer every day for several hours. I don't go out drinking. I don't play the horses or buy expensive theater tickets. The computer is my recreation. Why not spend some money on it and get some real performance.

I almost wish I were a gamer... My computer can deal with the 3D graphics now!
