I had a few PDFs on my 505 and the reflow works on them just fine

Out of town so cant wait to get home to try this for the pdf reflow.. is it the year 2525? Really had given up hope on the whole update thing.

By any chance have they done anything with the mp3 capabilities? Ie, being able to
play from a folders and not just one big directory?

Just installed and everything went great (used Vista on a MacBook Pro). I now have access to the few DRM'd PDFs I bought from Fictionwise years ago on my Reader which is excellent. The PDF reflow seems to work quite well and I'm very happy that you can now sync to memory cards and not just the main memory.

Nothing much to say other than the upgrade process went just fine I am using XP under Fusion on a MacBook Pro and all I did was ensure that the USB port was allocated to the VM by browsing the reader before starting the process.

I'll miss my clock though

Jeez, let go of the whole dictionary thing already! It's a Reader, not a 'Looker-Upper'! If you want a dictionary that badly, get a Kindle.

OK, I got home and downloaded everything.

Comments:

* The PDF reflow is nice. Still not the format of choice, but for when you have no choice but PDF,the zoom feature is very adequate.

* I really like the direct delete book option, but the Kindle still holds the edge here with its ability to delete multiple books at a time.

* The epub files work fine, but I guess I still do not understand the excitement for epub. Is it mainly a quest for a universal format? It does not seem magical in any way, and is still not universal by any means. I must be missing something.

All in all, I am grateful for the update. Sony is showing a commitment for the Reader that I feared they did not have.

Now to get the new light wedge book cover. Once I get that, my life will be complete.

<sigh>

Now I may have missed this but why can I not use Adobe DE for Mac to drag and drop?? I understand the Sony Software is windows only.

I wonder if Sony can produce a FW update for the 500 which just includes the delete and PDF reflow features? Gosh, I really don't care about Epub stuff.

Igorski, I also wonder if the PDF reflow feature can be extracted from the new firmware and added to the hackbuilder for the 500?

I know the Epub stuff needs more memory, but could the PDF reflow function run on the 500?

Fabian.

I tried to give my take on that question fairly thoroughly in the latter part of this post.

Hope that offers some sort of insight for you.

Thanks, NatCH!

With a green screen name comes great responsibility, and you have not disappointed.

I understand now. ePub is the open source of eBabel.

I am all for it!

would love to hear thoughts on how the new firmware affects battery life. i know it will take some time, but even initial impressions would be great as people toy with their Sony Readers. I can understand less battery life while, say, reflowing pdf.. but i hope the battery life does not take much or any of a hit when reading normal lrf or epub files, and definitely not when idling on standby.
