Your oppinions of the new kindles

What do yotu think of the new kindle's that amazon has introduced?

I like them all. I ordered the paperwhite wifi/so for myself. Keeping my 2 Kindle keyboards and my 2 Sony T1's as well. DH is a little befuddled. He just doesn't understand! I have a use for all of them. Not sure about the new one yet, but I think I'll put it on my secondary account where I mostly keep personal docs (i.e. books bought from non-Amazon stores). Unless I decide one of the Keyboards is no longer useful, I'll keep them all. I do have 4 kids. So far only one is interested in e-reading (the youngest is still too young). She uses a back-lit reader. She might try to confiscate my paperwhite!

I have noticed that amazon has not updated the entry level kindle as well as the kindle keyboard which remains the kindle three. So we have a kindle three amoung the fifth generation kindles. The variety of different kindles does make selecting which reader a little on the harder side unlike barns and nobels, sony and kobo who seem to have one model at a time.

While Sony only has one model, B&N has two eInk readers (simple touch and glow) and Kobo has three (touch, glo & mini).

Personally I like having a choice of models out there. Makes it more likely folks can find one that fits their needs better.

I think that the paperwhite model(s) look really good. I'm anxious to get my mitts on one of those.

For the most part, I really like the updates. Love the built in light. I wish they wouldn't have lowered the storage, but, I still have 2,800 MB available on my Kindle Keyboard. I have never used TTS except to test it out so I won't miss it.

I used Audio and TTS all the time.

Disappointed at the less storage etc but the removal of audio? that's the dealbreaker.
So for me it's a big step backward.

But they did update the basic model. It just doesn't have the illuminated screen. The $69 model has "darker hand-tuned fonts for easier reading", "15% faster page turns", "new parental controls" and is the same darker color as the paperwhites.

It better be faster than the K3. Mine are so slow! I may end up selling my wifi version, if I like the paperwhite enough to keep it on my Prime account, where my large archive is.

The K4 is the same as the 69 Kindle it's just a bezel change.

Nope they didn't they just used a marketing ploy. We K4 users have the same firmware the 69 Kindle uses. The only difference is a bezel changed.

Parental controls were part of an already delivered update I believe. Maybe the other things as well. No evidence that there's any hardware difference apart from the bezel color, so far.
