Collections question
My wife uses the Kindle and recently started setting up collections.
She finds them confusing as the books she put into the collection also stays in her general list. She thinks this is defeating the purpose the book being in 2 places. I don't read a lot of books and use my Nook color for what I read so only load what I want at a time whereas she has hundreds on the Kindle. Any suggestions on what others do to keep organized. I don't mess with her kindle except to load books from calibre so have no clue how collections work or are supposed to work. |

If she sorts by collection - instead of by title or author - the books will only appear in the collections.

It's worth bearing in mind that a collection is not a folder, but simply a "tag" - a "label" - that's applied to a book. You can attach multiple tags to a file, but there will still only be one copy of the book on your Kindle. When you go into a collection, the Kindle is showing you a list of all the books that have that particular tag.

Collection Confusion

I guess I could do a factory reset, make a collection and see if the file turns up, but even if it did, I'm not sure what that would prove. Thanks, guy. |

@SampleAndy: It's not a leftover at all, it's what the Kindle actually *uses* as the database backend to store/read the collections (at least on FW 2.5 to 4.x).

@SampleAndy: We're not quite sure how/when Amazon backups collections on eInk devices, so, yeah, the 'Import from another device' feature can seem a bit wonky, at times. You might have better success using K4PC/K4Mac as the 'source' (or not, never played with that
![]() If you simply want to 'clone' collections from/to a non-touch (K2/3/4) Kindle, if both use the exact same content (meaning same metadata/exact same path for sideloaded content), you can simply copy the collections.json file from one to the other. A restart later on the target device, and voilà ![]() That said, I'm (like a good deal of people), personally using this fantastic Calibre plugin, so I can't speak for any other tools ![]() Last edited by NiLuJe; 10-29-2012 at 01:50 PM. |
