Newbie from Texas
Hi, all. First post.... I've been reading ebooks for 15 years or so. I started out with a Newton Messagepad, then went to a Palm Tungsten, and several weeks ago got a Kindle (the wireless feature was the tipping point).
I have around 4,000 books in the house (collected over a period of 55 years or so), and not nearly enough shelf space for them all. You can see why I'm a fan of ebooks, heh. Most of my reading is mystery and science fiction, with a dash of classics. I am so glad that ebooks seem to be taking off, although my interests are mainly books from the 1940s through 1960s, which are going to take a while to be converted. It's so much easier and faster for modern books when you can take the authors' word processing file, for sure. I'm looking forward to becoming an active member here. Mike |

Welcome, Mike. I'm from the DFW area and I'm leading the planning for the TX MR gathering. Saturday, August 23 -- probably in Austin or near there.
I also own a Kindle. In May, my sister bought a Kindle and we put it on the same account with my Kindle so we could share books. Today, I ordered another Kindle for her daughter. Seems that the daughter kept taking the Kindle when her Mom was at work and then was reluctant to turn it over because she was in the middle of a good book! I recently bought a Sony PRS 505; I'm going to use it along with Kovid's calibre program. That should allow me to fairly compare the two readers. We're glad you've joined us here at MobileRead. Hang around and tell us all about the kinds of books you like to read, what you're buying from Amazon, etc. And, since you were impressed with the WhisperNet function for delivery of books from Amazon, take a gander at the MobileRead MobiPocket Download Guide. Copy it into your Kindle and then you can use the links in it to download any of the books from this site directly to the Kindle. Last edited by Elsi; 07-23-2008 at 10:39 PM. |

Welcome to MobileRead, JMikeD. Small world -- I used to live at 183 and Duval Road, behind the Warner Cable building.
