Thanks all. I am biased and think he is adorable. He is very healthy.
I think his personality is closer to Dad then Mom. He is a laid back kid. He does not always nap well but he does not get to be all that fussy. That reminds me of his Dad. Folks say he has my eyes and mouth. Personally, I think we have a ways to o before we really start to see his personality. |

They are the Kimono equivalent of a 'bow!' The way that the wide 'obi' (belt) was secured in the old days. Just folded stiff cloth. Today it is rather more just traditional, like a man's tuxedo cummerbund being his belt.

![]() All I want's the love you promised beneath the haloed moon But you think I should be happy with your money and your name And hide myself in sorrow while you play your cheating game Silver threads and golden needles cannot mend this heart of mine And I dare not drown my sorrow in the warm glow of your wine You can't buy my love with money cause I never was that kind Silver threads and golden needles cannot mend this heart of mine ![]() ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=flLoj...ure=plpp_video ) Good morning, everyone! Last Thursday in August! It's almost Winter! Steaming mug of East India Company's "Royal Breakfast" tea, two thin slices of grilled chicken breast (not two breasts, two slices...) spiced with Cajun seasonings and some broccoli (only for the anti-oxidants) with my rice this morning. I can feel the weight just dripping off my earlobes! Thin earlobes again... can you imagine? Today I'm going to walk around the 'hood' with an eye to see 'something I've never noticed before.' Proust said "The voyage of discovery lies not in traveling to new lands, but seeing with new eyes." I'm going give seeing with new eyes a try today. I hope the guy I take them from doesn't mind... @ Prof: he is just gorgeous. Enjoy him like this while you can, as one of my friends said (might have already posted this) "The days are long but the years are short" Our baby granddaughter has just turned two, can't believe it's gone so quickly.
Lemon tea with honey in my cup, I've come down for the second time with the bug that's doing the rounds locally, so hope the lemon and honey will help. |

Good morning everyone.
Coke Zero #1 in my cup. I'm just back from another couple of days helping my sisters-in-law in their new house. This time it was shelves. Th first day, we tackled two sets that had come out of storage, but were missing the cross-bracing rods at the back. Without them, they had an unfortunate tendency to just collapse sideways. With the help of my son, two hammers, a drill and some 6mm mild steel rods, we managed to cold-forge new bracing rods by hammering the end of the rods flat and drilling holes at just the right distance. You can bet we measured very carefully before drilling! The second day I had my first visit to an iKea store and picked up four "Billy" 80x202x28 bookshelves. Luckily I'd heard that the way to get through quickly is to turn back on yourself to find the "shortcut" signs to skip vast amounts of the showroom and get to the flatpack aisles, and I'd looked up on-line which aisle and bay number we needed. They now have 6.4 square metres of new bookshelves, neatly assembled, and even with the top attachment to the wall fitted. And that was just the shelves. We also managed to empty several more boxes of paperwork and file it away correctly (on the newly assembled shelves from day 1). Goodness, it's nice to be home! At least the cat has the good sense to perch on a noble house...
I'm drinking a cup of hot water that has had a chocolate bar waved over the top of it. 'She' got to eat the chocolate. I get to drink the hot water. Is this fair? Stitchawl |

VydorScope, I was thinking of you today...
I happened to be in a local large Home Center, and in the Kitchen department looking for a new frying pan. Not familiar with that shop, I was wandering through the isles looking at everything, when I passed the 'waribashi' shelves. That's the name for the disposable chopsticks. I remembered you asking about them a few months back, and I really should have taken a pic with my phone for you.... Piles. I mean PILES of bags of disposable chopsticks. Imagine large pillow cases, but made of plastic, CRAMMED with individually wrapped waribashi, pillow cases stacked 3-4 feet high filled with 'em. This is where the restaurants buy their supplies, so larger packages than we would use at home. When we buy them, we get these 'fancier' ones with the decorated paper wrappers for use when we go on picnics, etc. But this is what a family with a couple of kids would buy for regular family outings. Good question! They use them too. Oddly enough, it doesn't seem to be a problem.

There are all 'grades' of waribashi, from just flat sticks that never seem to separate equally to nicely tapered rounds with well cut ends that break apart cleanly. Even the best Japanese restaurants serve waribashi as the Japanese people feel that this is more hygienic! Of course those waribashi are made from polished bamboo and look like something one would actually keep and reuse. Japanese chopsticks are a few inches shorter than Chinese chopsticks, and these days I actually have more trouble with the Chinese ones, even though that's what I learned to use as a kid eating in the neighborhood Chinese restaurant. Here's a bit of trivia for ya: most disposable chopsticks used in Japan are made in the US! They ship the cedar logs to the States, and the factories there cut them down and ship back the finished product! Nutty, eh? Stitchawl Last edited by Stitchawl; 08-30-2012 at 10:06 AM. |
