The split just shows BV and Web inspector. The nice thing about the web inspector is it shows the Inherited CSS values (what you see), then allows you to drill down to the layer that drove you to ![]() |

Ah well, I'll wait and see. I really want to able to edit code and see the result side by side. That's what a good IDE gives you. Not that I'm complaining - I think Sigil is a good piece of gear, specially for the price

It seems, the split view command (for the "Book View" and "Code View" about each other) is not available in version 0.7.3 anymore.
The sigil user guide http://web.sigil.googlecode.com/git/...book_view.html does not give any hint for the existence of a split view. Is it really gone? |

Correct. But that is not new to .7.3 - it's been that way since .7.0 IIRC.
What you have is Code View or Book View. If you want to see how the book will look while you are working on the code then there is a dockable window called "Preview" (F10) that allows you to work in CV in the main window and see the changes as they appear in the docked Preview window. IMHO a MUCH better solution than split view. |

@Turtle91
A preview is something different to a Book View of course. I miss the split view. I allowed a user to switch between these two edit modes with the permantly seeing the other. Very powerful authoring tools like Dreamweaver offer a split view since more than a decade. I can't see a motive to eliminate the command split view. And I say that without anything againt the preview. It may have it's friends as well. I myself do not need a preview typically. I just need edit modes. |

The motive was that it was a nightmare to maintain from a synchronization standpoint. Useful, sure, but otherwise an albatross around the neck of the devs whenever new features and/or tweaks were being introduced (from the few things I've gleaned).
I know a lot of people miss it, but I never did warm up to it, truthfully. The cursor would get lost all the time (as well as my place in the document), plus it would hang on me, and I'd have to wait for it to "catch up" to my edits. I said goodbye to it, myself, long before they officially got rid of it. I think it's been gone since the betas for 0.6, actually. Last edited by DiapDealer; 08-05-2013 at 07:22 PM. |

@DiapDealer
Thanks for the hints about the extra work for the developer. Now I will get used to it easier. |

I started this thread nearly a year ago and I'm happy with the way things have developed. I know the preview is not the same as a full-blown book view, for example you can't follow links in the preview, but it does most of what I need. I just wanted to be able to see the results of code changes without having to switch views all the time and the preview does that.
