Book disappears from library
A side loaded ebook disappears from the library of my KT. The book is still in de Digital Editions folder of the KT but doesn't show in the library.
Connecting the KT to a computer (USB cable) and disconnecting without changing anything makes the book reappear in the library but when the KT is switched off and then turned on again the book has disappeared ones again. KT: 2.0.0. (r411166) / Desktop: 3.0.1 Book: no DRM Solution: upgraded the KT firmware to 2.0.2. Books don't disappear anymore but I still don't know what caused the problem in the first place. With 2.0.x firmware, the Touch seems to look at books each time you disconnect. And it sometimes deletes them. It seems to delete the books if there is a change it doesn't like. With 2.0.0, this seemed to be every time the book was updated. Simply copying the book over again would cause it to disappear. With 2.0.2, it doesn't seem to happen as much. I am still losing some books after resending them from calibre. The only change I am sure that cause the delete is if the title metadata gets changed. |

The firmware 2.0 seemed to update fine for me and only noticed two functions that didn't work.
One was the annotations and percent of book read which was in the thousands of percent. The other was the Shelf for categories which seemed to have failed the update. A suggestion by some users to "LOGOUT OF KOBO DESKTOP SOFTWARE" worked for me and was able to use the SHELF function as it was intended. I haven't tested the percent read in annotations yet but will try to report back. Thanks for the help and efforts ![]() |

The percent read in annotations has always been a bit weird. I saw all sorts of numbers in with 1.9.17 as well as 2.0.0.

But I am wedded to eInk for straight reading. While waiting for new, improved firmware, I am handling the KT carefully and not trying to put too many books on it. |

My KT's on the "official" release of FW 2.0, and lately I've been creating some shelves and have discovered what I think are undesirable behaviours by the firmware. I'm mentioning them here to see if others have seen them as well, but also because I suspect they're bugs.
1) When I finish a book that's been added to a shelf, the book is marked complete, and left in my Lbrary, but it's automatically removed from the Shelf. Note I haven't deleted the book; as I said it's still in my main Library; it just no longer appears on the Shelf it was previously assigned to. 2) If I'm reading a book that's included on a Shelf I've created, when my KT goes into sleep mode it doesn't use the book's cover as a screen display; instead it generates a text screen with the book's display name from the file's metadata in a large (24pt or so), italicised serif font as a title. I know it's the KT doing that, because that screen doesn't exist anywhere in the actual e.book, and it's always the same font and formatting, regardless of the book itself, for every Shelved book on my KT. (If I'm reading a book that hasn't been assigned to a Shelf and let the KT go into sleep mode, the sleep display is still the book's cover ... well, allowing for the bug of the firmware using the previous book's cover the first time it goes into sleep mode.) I haven't found any user options to turn these behaviours on or off. Removing a completed book from a Shelf seems like a bug; the display of a device-generated title seems harmless enough, but it is unexpected. What's wrong with the book's cover for the sleep display, as we used to have? Or is this simply a bug, and the text display of the book's metatitle was intended for another purpose? Have other people seen these? Last edited by MacEachaidh; 08-23-2012 at 01:49 PM. |

If I go from the book back to the Home page, the carousel display at first shows this text faux-cover for the book, and then after a second or two that updates to show the actual cover of the book, so I know the graphic is still there. If I then go back into the book, and manually put the KT to sleep, then the sleep screen display is the correct cover of the book ... but just the first time. The next time the KT goes to sleep with that book open, it's back to the device-generated book title display. |

- If I start reading a book a new book from a shelf, the text cover is used. - If I start reading a book from the general library, or the carousel, a real cover is used. But, it is from the previous book. - If I open a book from a shelf that has previously been opened and had a cover generated for the sleep screen, the cover will be used. That is the result of some very quick tests, so I might have missed something. In any case, it looks like a bug rather than something deliberate. Maybe when they fix the use last cover bug, this will get fixed to. |

The Touch does not actually use the cover image from the ePub. It is actually using the first page from the ePub. For most books, this is just some html that displays the image. But, I have some downloaded stories that have a text based cover page the first page. And others that use a mix of text with an image. For these, this page is what the Touch. |

I have the same behaviour as Peakcrew. When a book is finished it is removed from the carousel but not from my shelves. I know this because I have a shelf called "To be read" and when I finish a book I have to manually remove it from that shelf.
I (and many other people) have the book cover bug. I got so sick of the Kobo never displaying the correct cover that I changed my settings so that my Kobo never goes to sleep. I'd rather have to recharge more often than never be sure what book I'm about to open. |
