![]() I have a K3 (US3g -Kindle Keyboard) and need to uninstall the screensaver hack so I can send it in to be (hopefully) fixed by Square Trade. Here's what I installed on it back in 2010: kindle-jailbreak-0.4.N Kindle-ss-0.15.N I put the uninstall file for the SS in the root file and did a restart from the menu and got an error message. (My understanding is that I need to uninstall the screensaver hack before uninstalling Jailbreak, although I also tried that and got an unsuccessful message.) Can anyone help? If I'm just sending it into Square Trade can I simply do a "Reset to factory defaults?" Will any of this affect the ability to re-install the screensaver when I get it back? Thanks in advance! |

You need to keep the jailbreak 'til the end. Once it's uninstalled, you won't be able to run custom uninstall files
.If you did, I'm gonna need more details on said 'error message'... And, no, a factory reset won't uninstall the hacks. |

I stupidly did an uninstall for the Jailbreak first as I couldn't initially find my uninstall file for the hack (had upgraded my computer since the install in Oct.. 2010). BTW, when I did that I got the message that the update had failed. Then I found the uninstall file for the hack and got the "update failed message" then"error, contact Amazon" message. I could try running the hack uninstall file again to get the message, but frankly I'm afraid to do so. Thanks for your help!

Reinstall the jailbreak first. And don't reboot with a custom .bin in the userstore, always use the "Update Your Kindle" link.

Okay, jailbreak has been reinstalled.
Do I go ahead with uninstalling the screensaver hack now? Thanks! Last edited by trophywife007; 08-22-2012 at 05:11 PM. |

in his place I will say yes.
p.p. for someone who knows a great deal more. my reasoning is this: the update to remove the SS hack failed. hence it was unaltered. therefore it should NOT be in an - altered - state by your previous failed attempt. thus is it safe to conclude that you can proceed as usual. Here ends thoughts. Last edited by twobob; 08-22-2012 at 05:29 PM. Reason: added a bit more. |

Is there still a folder for screensavers when you plug it in?

If you can still ssh into the Kindle, you can just remove the screensaver hack with a few command line commands.
I wrote it up, somewhere here, not all that long ago. I think I even indexed it under what to do about error code <something>. |

@qlob: That doesn't necessarily mean anything, the uninstaller doesn't remove custom folders by default.
@trophywife007: We still need details about the 'error message' and the 'failure'. Or better yet, logs (;dumpMessages). Last edited by NiLuJe; 08-22-2012 at 11:23 PM. |

When I did "Update Kindle" I got the message that the update was unsuccessful. I'm working at trying to get the logs.

;debugOn
;dumpMessages ;debugOff In the Home search bar. (I usually pull it up by hitting [Del] on my K3, that makes it pop up empty). @twobob: Er, K4? Her profile mentions a K3/KDX :? |
