I haven't seen it much, in Pennsylvania or here in the Chicago suburbs.

Though I must admit, my 88 (or so) year old step-father spits a lot, to clear his throat. Usually goes to the restroom to do it.

I just posted this in the Kindle Fire section, but I'm so ticked off I'm going to vent and rant here too.

I've owned several Kindle readers, starting with the Kindle 1. I've always like Amazon quite a bit, and never really had a complaint. Well they just ticked me off!

I have a Kindle Fire, and about two months ago I spent a ton of time uploading all my music to the Google Cloud, so it would be available on my Fire. At the time, Amazon allowed 5 Gig to be uploaded. Any music that had been purchased through Amazon didn't count towards space used. This was great!

I spent several days uploading files, and deciding which ones I could live without to keep it under that 5 Gig limit. About half my music was bought through Amazon, so it was stored for free (but I did have to upload it). However, I signed on to my Cloud Player today and got a message stating the new policy is now just 250 songs not purchased through Amazon is the max. The free 5 Gig no longer applies.

I have 30 days to either delete music or purchase one of their storage plans. The cost of the storage plan is reasonable, but I feel like I just got the bait and switch. This really ticks me off!

I had planned on buying several new albums as well -- I was so mad I changed my mind. I'm now going to be taking a look at Google for my music needs. That Nexus 7 is also starting to look a little better.

The book stores here are full of them. Unfortunately, these books don't really sell OUTSIDE of Japan, which is where they might actually do some good. Here they are sold as 'humor.' One of the best, based upon the "L"vs "R" problems is titled:
"Is it 'R' as in London or 'L' as in Rome." When my wife tries to spell something for me, despite being able to speak English fairly well, will ALWAYS transpose these two letters, even after all these years.

In Thailand, it's OK to pick your nose in public. Imagine your waitress placing your dinner plate in front of you with her index finger of the other hand buried up to the third knuckle in her nose... Cultures take some getting used to...

It's all about understanding where the other half comes from even if you don't agree with their ways. I could definitely write a book on their marriage, it would be hilarious and also very sad.

The word for today (and every day for expats or members mixed marriages) is "Flexibility." One really does have to learn to 'go with the flow.' In English we have even changed job titles to make some people more respectable. Who do you invite to the Embassy dinner? A prostitute or a courtesan?

Fingerprints are 'art.' Sort of like Fingerpaint.

Of course, how do you suppose they make the stainless steel kind? Not only that, but the sheet of very thin stainless steel costs less to make that the heat treated enamel on the white (or any other color) ones, but they can charge more ‘cause folks think they’re better.

Rant Mode: On

My little Chinese import shop has closed!!! I went to Kyoto today to re-supply my tea shelves, and when I went to get my favorite Keemun, the shop was gone! I'm not really surprised... It had shrunk 2-3 years ago from a good sized first floor store to a small upstairs shop with less than half the stock. The last time I was in their I purchased all the unbranded Keemun they had, hoping to protect myself from what I felt was written on the walls, but I guess I should have tried going back sooner. It's gone...

In a few days (when the weather forecast is better) I'll take a ride to the city of Kobe, on the far side of Osaka, about a 2.5 hour ride at least. There is a real 'China Town' section with 2-3 streets of Chinese vendors. One of them must carry the same Keemun tea, but I'll have to buy a bunch of different ones and do a taste test to locate the one I like. On the plus side, I can pick up some sweet Chinese duck sausage while I'm there. I haven't had that in a long time.

I didn't know that, thanks. So, get the white one and put on a stainless steel faceplate. Problem solved.
*Then when it is "in' to have white again, just take it off and it will look brand new *

Would that it were a 'great' ride... Unfortunately, it's either city street, stop-n-go from traffic light to traffic light, or expressway with bumper-to-bumper huge trucks for 3/4 of the way, THEN stop-n-go from traffic light to traffic light city streets for the rest... The only pleasant part is in my driveway...
I might opt for taking the trains instead... that's still a two hour trip but at least I can read my book.
But then, there is the bright side... some of the neat foods I can find there, and with luck, some good Keemun tea!
