I have this checked out from the library but haven't got to it yet, but it looks quite intriguing.
I have nearly finished listening to American Gods by Neil Gaiman. Very strange, but I liked it. Great narration by George Guidall, too. |

Finished Kate Shugak #14, A Taint in the Blood. Taking a bit of a break to read one of my new Heyer's A Civil Contract. This is one that I missed somehow when I made my big splurge on Georgette Heyer books last year. But I added it with this year's sale, and have jumped right in to it. Delicious, as always.

Ah well. I'm not the biggest Hunger Games fan around but the ending of Catching Fire was really great and made me excited to see where it's going to go. I hope it doesn't disappoint. |

I'm 70% or so into Scaramouche by Rafael Sabatini, and I'm liking it a lot. I actually watched the 1952 movie first and while I enjoyed it, the characters were surprisingly boring (the sword fights and fancy costumes helped keep the boredom to a minimum, though). The book versions are much more interesting-- especially Aline, who's basically a dumb wet blanket in the movie. In the book, she's actually got a personality and some intelligence. :P

I was a bit disappointed by Mockinjay too. I think the depiction of the characters was quite good, but I definitely didn't like the ending. |

I am also rereading Harry Potter on my Kindle and I am about 30% into Order of the Phoenix. It will take me a while getting through it, though, because I tend to read a chapter or two in between the other books I am reading.

I knew Marilu Henner ("Elaine Nardo" on the 80s sitcom Taxi) was a pretty lady, but I never knew she was a HSAMer.
HSAM is an acronym for "highly superior autobiographical memory", a very rare condition in which people can remember every day of their lives. Needless to say, it's been a boon to her acting career. Her book, Total Memory Makeover: Uncover Your Past, Take Charge of Your Future, was evidently first published just this year. For more info, go to http://www.marilu.com/. I just downloaded a sample for my Kindle. You may also want to read the article on New Scientist.com that led me to it, "They never forget: The strange gift of perfect memory" by Kayt Sukel; but if you're not a subscriber you'll have a week to wait before the article is available. Also reading (on Audible), Carousel Tides, by Sharon Lee. Actually a re-read, I read it on my Kindle when it released, but hadn't bought the Audible book until this summer. |

I should finish Mistborn very soon. As for other books, not so fast: I'm still reading Sophie's World (why does a terrific book like that take so long to read? It's been 2 months now!), and UnLunDun (that book is certainly not good), and Strange Tales from a Chinese studio (mostly super-short ghost stories).
After that mess, I might reread some stories from Sherlock Holmes Omnibus and then continue with book 3# of Harry Potter. Ah, I might be the only one here who haven't read the whole series. |
