I'm sure there's a joke in there somewhere. I'll resist the temptation, and leave it to Stitchy.

A pre-trip coffee in my cup.

Betty, every time you post I am instantly hungry. The peach pies sound yummy.

Have a great time orlok!

Stitchawl, I hope your day has improved.

Hope you enjoy it, it's probably more interesting for adults than kids, but there's lots of stairs for them to race up and down, also a good tea rooms. It's certainly not your average British castle.

Yes, thanks. I repeatedly kicked and punched the heck out of a Fu dog, which immediately made me regret it, but did feel better afterwards. I'm now drinking a Lemon and Lime Rickey and relaxing.

Vacation means NOT checking email, NOT logging on to MobileRead, and NOT doing work. I remember well explaining to our editor when we would be on vacation first a year in advance, then 6 months before, then 3 months before, then a month before, and then, 3 days before we were to leave, that same editor started trying to figure out how we were going to handle Pages while we were in Paris. Yup. You can guess what we told her.

(ah, Paris. The mere mention of the name causes my liver to quiver. The food we ate!!! I honestly had never understood the French fascination with, and concern for, their livers until we were in Paris for two weeks of Michelin starred restaurants. )

If it is fun, I log in. If it is work I don't.

Oolong from Teavana. Can't remember the name and I am too lazy Togo check the bag. It is good. Trying to figure out how to get Lucas to stay asleep in his crib. He is fine during the night but during the day wakes up from his nap 5 minutes after I put his into his crib sound asleep.

I wonder if a warm hot-water bottle (and perhaps a flannel wrap) would make him feel more like he is with another human? I hear that's what you do for young puppies, anyway!

Heaven's just a sin away oh oh just a sin away
I can't wait another day I think I'm giving in
How I love to hold you tight oh oh be with you tonight
That still won't make it right cause I belong to him

Oh way down deep inside I know that it's all wrong
Your eyes keep tempting me and I never was that strong

Devil's got me now oh oh gone and got me now
I can't find him anyhow I'm think he's gonna win
Heaven's just a sin away oh oh just a sin away
Heaven help me when I say I think I'm giving in

Good morning, everyone! 14 years today! At 6am, Aug 21, 1998, standing outside the doors to the Miami International Airport, I drank a cup of tea and smoked my last cigarette.
Fourteen years, 3 hours, 7 minutes and 32 seconds.
153423 cigarettes not smoked,
saving $38,355.89.
If I were a 'saving' man I'd have a nice pile of change to spend for something. As it is, I've spent it time and time again, each year giving myself another present on this anniversary day. Today I'm drinking the last of my East India Company's "Royal Breakfast" tea so I'm going to ride into Kyoto today and re-stock my Tea Shelf as my anniversary present. I'm almost out of all of my East India Company teas, just a wee bit of Yorkshire tea left, and only half a tin of my unbranded Keemun, so I'm gonna buy them all!

We bought this 'device' (looked a bit like this one) that had a wind-up motor and a large cradle that would rock for about an hour. The minute it started my son would fall asleep, and stay asleep as long as it continued to rock. If it stopped, he'd wake up and want to play. At times it was a God-send...

Way to go Stitchawl!

We have a swing but the little guy has not shown it much love. He does like his bouncy seat.

Thanks, all! I'm pretty pleased about it.

We were on our way back to Japan. We had been to Florida to visit my parents, my son came down and we took him diving in Key Largo for a week, then my wife and I went diving in Key West for a week. We were facing 38 hours of being in no-smoking airports and planes, so I bought some 'patches' and a couple of boxes of herbal 'quit smoking' capsules for the trip. After the second day, something about the patches made me feel as if Aliens were invading my body, so I just continued with the herbal capsules. I had absolutely NO intention of stopping smoking, only getting through the trip. But the capsules worked so well I had no physical withdrawal symptoms or cravings so I continued them for the next two weeks... By that time the chemical addiction was broken and all I had to do was deal with the emotional side of not smoking. I was surprised to discover that 'for me,' it was MUCH more difficult than the nicotine addiction and it took me YEARS to really deal with it. That little computer counter app gave me the daily feedback to inspire me to continue. Each day I could see it growing and really appreciate the fact that I was making progress. It was worth all the effort.
