The New Deputy in Town by B. J. Daniels

Deputy Sheriff Nick Rogers found out small-town life meant adjusting to two things—gossips and Laney Cavanaugh. And neither was much help in solving a bridal shower murder.

Some days it appeared like everyone in Whitehorse had a secret—including their new lawman. And falling for Laney wasn't a good way to maintain a low profile. Nick might have been new to Whitehorse, but he wasn't above getting his hands dirty. Even if everybody in Laney's family had it in for the victim, and they were fixing for a fight. Wedding bells were always trouble, and, unfortunately, trouble always had a way of hunting Nick down.

Yes, that would be great! Thank you!

Just to prevent any misunderstandings, the thread is not "owned" by anyone, so your starting it at the beginning of the month was perfectly all right. The more contributors, the merrier!

But it might be useful to post a reminder at the beginning of each month about what the thread's purpose is and how it (mostly) functions. This will evolve over time and is not too narrow anyway (think multiple Calibre libraries!), but a little information may go a long way in preventing people from being disappointed in it.

The Italian's Inexperienced Mistress

When Angelo sought revenge Gwenna Hamilton added another delicious dimension. Innocent and pretty, she didn't stand a chance when the Italian tycoon offered her the devil's bargain: pay for her father's freedom with her body.

In her naiveté, Gwenna thought that Angelo would tire of her and her innocence very quickly. But he had more in mind that just one night...

Formally published by Avon in 1994. This is book 1 of the series.
Note: I had to do a double take because Samhain never puts these up for free. This is from their Retro Romance line.

I don't know how that happen! It's fixed now. I just woke up for the day so thanks for letting me know. I got so excited to see a free Retro Romance I didn't think to double check my post.

This must be Samhain's mid-month freebie. I guess they are branching out and maybe trying to popularize the Retro line? Whatever the reason, it works for me.

Perhaps we should the outline this thread's purpose at the beginning of each month?
An outline would be good idea. The last time someone complain we were posting all Kindle links I tried to branch out but It just didn't work out for me. ATDrake started a non Kindle thread and then it I guess that got buried but yes Non Kindle links are welcomed and in general the more contributors the merrier!
Myself I do not limit freebies to any format.

We should put in there that KDP books are DRM Free. Just drop into Calibre and convert to epub. The new KF8 books are even easier to convert using the Mobi unpack plugin. There is an option to extract to epub which takes seconds no need for conversion.

The very first month it was a Romance Freebies for Kindle thread, but by the next month it was a Freebie and Bargain Romances thread independent of retailer or format.
In the interests of accuracy, I'm going to point out that nobody actually complained (at least not directly in my KDP posts) about the amount of romance freebies and that the original romance thread in fact started out as an offshoot for the chats and recommendations from that mega-Harlequin sale thread and then later became a general freebie/bargain romance thread because I happen to be a no-romo at heart and you didn't think it was a good idea to rely on the kindness of strangers who are no-romos at heart, which incidentally, turned out to be a correct decision.

Also, many of the Harlequins mitford13 is mentioning as free @ Amazon were originally DRM-free ePub/PDF directly from the publisher at the Try Harlequin site for those who need other formats.

Anyway, some time-limited sales for all you romos. Samhain is offering an extra 30% off the following titles with the August-long coupon BACKTOSCHOOL when you buy directly from their site (DRM-free MultiFormat; make absolutely sure to click "redeem" to make sure your coupon discount went through before entering your payment info). If you catch them during the pre-order/new-release week with the standard 30% off, then you get the books effectively at half-price:

Feeling Hot by Elle Kennedy, contemporary
Family Scandals by Denise Patrick, historical
Degrees of Wrong by Anna Scarlett, sci-fi
Twisted in Tulips by Nikki Duncan, contemporary
Sherlock's Home by Sharon DeVita, retro reprint contemporary

already past the new release week but still coupon eligible for 30% off:

Seven Sexy Sins by Serenity Woods, contemporary
Crazy in the Blood by Lucienne Diver, urban fantasy (with continuing series heroine, so probably not a dedicated romance-romance)

Until August 18th, the Book View Café author consortium is offering selected titles on sale (they are DRM-free, but have recently switched from having MultiFormat redownloadable from their site to single-format which you have to keep your email link for, which is a considerable step down, IMHO).

Patricia Rice, who is being reprinted by Sourcebooks and re-released by ePublishing Works! and from whom we've gotten a few freebies recently, is offering the following romance titles on sale:

The English Heiress, #2 in the Regency Noble series, for $4.99 (down from $6.99), no coupon required

Some of the other sale titles require a coupon code, and this dedicated specials page here has the details of what to enter for which.

Of possible interest to romance readers:

Jennifer Stevenson has been published by Random House and has a comedic-looking vampire paranormal romance (or urban fantasy with strong vampiric romantic elements, depending on how you look at things, since she was published under one of their sf/fantasy imprints rather than the dedicated romance ones) and offers $2 off her regularly $4.99: A Taste of You

Pati Nagle has a couple of paranormal romance-looking urban fantasy titles featuring the "aelven" for 50% off their regular price of $4.99.

Last edited by ATDrake; 08-15-2012 at 02:00 PM. Reason: I'll just pretend that vampire in the story bit off the last part of the author's name.

We've really got a great thing going on here. All these kind posters linking us to free books...from all over the web.
All the kindle freebies were the reason I got a kindle, too.

And it was on this thread I learned of K4PC to get me started.

All of you regular posters are so fantastic, and I really appreciate each and every one of your contributions.
