There is a lengthy discussion of the issue here.
It affected my 2 Kindle Keyboards. After they replaced one and the problem continued, I opened a new account and registered one of the Kindles to it. Since then, no more problems. Although this has solved the problem for me, it is not entirely satisfactory, and as a result, I am reluctant to buy any more e-ink Kindles. I use one account mainly for personal docs and news. My main account, I hardly even use that Kindle, though my Fire is on it, too. But it's for freebies, the occasional purchase, and the Lending Library book of the month. I will probably sell that e-ink Kindle eventually. |

![]() Actually, the line-height bug is a problem with the Kindle 4 and the Kindle Touch as both have the same buggy coding in the firmware. If it was me, I'd upgrade if the screen was HD. |

If you only have a KF8 supported Kindle, when you download any eBooks from Amazon and there is a KF8 version, you get it even if you don't want it. |

I ran into this the other day and was easily able to get around it by adjusting the line height in the devices view setting. Maybe not idea as I had to adjust things back when reading a regular Mobi book, but not the end of the world either.

@AnemicOak: devices view setting? Where is that? Or did you do that in Calibre? If you mean the font setting it can't eliminate the extra spacing.
Anyway I'm on the same boat with JSWolf, I want higher resolution to upgrade. A better touch would also do me though. Having none of those I won't. As an aside, I thought that IR touch << capacitive touch, but I've recently learned that is not true. Where I teach, now we have starboards that use IR and they are very responsive. That leads me to think that the poor touch on the ereaders is a fault of their implementation of IR touch and not a fault of the tech itself. That also means that even if they switch to capacitive touch it could still suck. |

They've failed, so far, to convince me to upgrade from my K2 US-only model. And I already have plenty of existing lighting that's easily directed toward its screen. Maybe if they come up with an improvement that actually enhances reading-retention. But until such time ... nothing short of a broken Kindle will convince me to upgrade.

I'm not sure what new features or functionality would entice me to buy a new Kindle. I can think of none, but perhaps Amazon is more imaginative than I. I'm still not convinced the lit screen is a good idea. The Nooks I've seen on video reviews looked awfully glaring and I suspect have less contrast, either of which is bad. I could go look at one of the Nook Glows, but why bother as I will NEVER buy another B&N reader. B&N, just like Sony, have lackluster overall eBook systems. I won't waste any more money on either of them, especially Sony since it thumbs its corporate nose at the American eReader market. I love their TVs though! |

Of course I can't say it works in every case, just the one I ran into. I'd still like to see them fix the issue, but in a real life situation I found it a slight annoyance, not a deal killer type problem. Last edited by AnemicOak; 08-15-2012 at 10:35 AM. |

I guess I'll be the only person to say this, but I'll order one the minute they put it up for ordering. I'm older and the light is very appealing to me. And besides that, I'm just a sucker for anything Kindle. I already have a K3, a Touch, and a Fire. These devices are just something I love

I'll probably do the same as I did when the K5 (Kindle Touch) was available for pre-order. I'll pre-order one and then cancel the pre-order a few days later as I talk myself out of it because my KK is still suitable for my reading purposes. A few days after I cancel, I'll pre-order another one and the cycle will continue.
Amazon shipped the K5 a week earlier than the website indicated, so I returned the K5 with its box unopened. |
