I loved rereading Sandman this weekend and my reread of The Hobbit the other week. I may have to reread LOTR and Earthsea as well. I love revisiting old friends.
Hey Girls! We are doing well, happy and healthy. Quite a bit blinder, but seems to be finally stabilizing, with the last exam being the first since 2006 without bleeding or more damage to my retinas. I hope y'all are doing well also!

The Hangman's Daughter was excellent, and one of the last books that I read. It is just plain good storytelling. But Moving Mars? I tried listening to it, but it does not adapt well to audio. Some books are more "listenable" or maybe it is the person reading. I dunno?

You have my phone number and email address, so I'd love to hear from you! Take care of yourselves and hug each other from me!

Cool The Liam Campbell Series by Dana Stabenow

When I finished reading Nothing Gold Can Stay late last evening I was intrigued by the way the last scene ended and how that ending appeared to tie into the next book in the series in an interesting way. This morning, still intrigued, I peaked into the next (and last) book in the series, Better To Rest, not planning to actually read it right then. Well, you all know about those 'best laid plans', don't you? Oh well!

Oh, hon. I'm sorry about the blinder part for sure. That is awful. I'm finding the reader is doing an okay job. It isn't the most absorbing audiobook but not that long and I have a long commute.

The Void by Brett J.Talley-

"In the deepest reaches of space, on a ship that no longer exists, six travelers stare into the abyss . . . and the abyss stares back.

Man has finally mastered the art of space travel and in a few hours passengers can travel light years across the galaxy. But, there's a catch-the traveler must be asleep for the journey, and with sleep come the dreams. Only the sleeper can know what his dream entails, for each is tailored to his own mind, built from his fears, his secrets, his past . . . and sometimes his future.

That the dreams occasionally drive men mad is but the price of technological advance. But when a transport on a routine mission comes upon an abandoned ship, missing for more than a decade, six travelers-each with something to hide-discover that perhaps the dreams are more than just figments of their imagination. Indeed, they may be a window to a reality beyond their own where shadow has substance and the darkness is a thing unto itself, truly worthy of fear."

this guys books are genuinely scary. i'm never scared by horror fiction but both this and That Which Should Not Be have definitely scared me.

Not quite as good as this months Analog for me. There was a longish far future story that I found a bit dull and confusing, although I see what the author was trying for.

Next, a random choice from my TBR pile: Postsingular by Rudy Rucker. except that I find I've read it!

So: I'll read his Ware Tetrology instead.

I am reading The Mars Monopoly by Jerry Sohl. I picked it up when Reaniums Press lowered the price to $4.99. It's pretty good so far. It has the potential to get better.

Next, back to the Ukiah Oregon series, by Wen Spencer. Number two in the series is Tainted Trail.
Finished Tainted Trail. This book felt like it was a bit forced. Too many clunky places in the narrative where the author kept trying to tell us what had already happened in the first book, and those places were both seriously uninformative, and highly disruptive of the flow of the book. If that continues into the next book, Bitter Waters, I'm going to have to give up. But if Ms. Spencer gets past that, and focuses on the story she's trying to tell, then this series should continue to be quite enjoyable.

Also finished Elizabeth Moon's Command Decision (Vatta's War #4) on Audible. Still an annoying reader, and the story has definite signs of being an "early work" before Ms. Moon had really found her legs, but it's also a quite decent series and I'm enjoying it a lot.

Meanwhile, next up is Dana Stabenow's A Fine and Bitter Snow. Can't let alansplace get too far ahead of me.

As I recall, you're WAY ahead since these are my first reads of Dana's stuff, whereas you are re-reading them, right?

True, they're re-reads. But actually my first time through for actual reading. Previous reads were as Audible books. But I'm enjoying equally as regular books.

Ah ha! Ok then I'm at least partly correct.

On a related note, have you seen this new omnibus (just $9.95)?

I just started the new Bruno Chief of Police book The Devil's Cave by Martin Walker. So far it is as good as the other four.
