Having GAS (Gadget Anticipation Syndrome).
I've always found my 15.4" notebook a bit cumbersome to carry around with me. When I look after my friends' dog for less than I week I usually won't take it with me. Three years ago I chose the 15.4" because I use it, almost on a daily basis, to watch movies in bed. However, after my holiday I plan on getting a tv for my bedroom, so the need for the bigger sized notebook isn't there anymore. So I've decided to get a smaller notebook. After some research and comparisons I've decided to get a MacBook Pro 13.3" with i7 processor. I didn't choose an Air because I like a more space than an SSD has, I also like to have an optical drive and the Pro has a notebook lock slot and the Air doesn't. Unfortunatly, it will be at least a couple of months before I've saved enough money to get the MacBook, so until that time I guess I'll be visiting the Apple stores on a regular basis .It's been around 15 years since we've switched from Macs to Windows (software for the store and admin wasn't readitly available for Macs back then). Since my old notebook is still in working order I plan to install Linux on it and see how that works. |

I was literally born into the world of Macs. Switched to Windows when I was a teenager because of the lack of game support. Would switch back in a heartbeat if I just had the money.

I can remember my father getting a Macintosh SE and playing Klondike (?) and snooker on it. As I said, we switched because my father couldn't find a bookkeeper that worked with Macs and because all the catalogues the manufacturers and suppliers were providing didn't work on Macs. I'm mainly getting a Mac because they offer 13.3" notebooks with an old fashioned HDD and is not much more expensive than other small notebooks or ultrabooks with similar specs. I had to laugh at my father's reaction when I told him I'm planning on buying a new notebook. His first reaction was to ask what I was planning to do with my current one, he also wants to try out Linux, so he liked what I had planned. When I then told him I'm planning on getting a Mac he was very surprised, probably because I refuse getting and iPod or iPhone. But I think he's as excited as I am, he's very curious about the new Macs as I am. |

My first computer was a Tandy Color Computer—popularly known as the "CoCo"—from Radio Shack. List price $199, but the Shack always had them on sale for $99. All programming was done in Basic and you saved your programs on a standard cassette tape. Back in the day it was quite a bargain. Screen resolution was terrible (not unlike the very first home video games), but I did manage to do some animation with it. Wasn't easy, as you had to tell the computer the location of each and every pixel, but it was fun.

My friends are either returning from their holiday tomorrow evening or Wednesday morning. Which means that today is cleaning day. I'm almost done upstairs and after my parent pick up my stuff I can do downstairs.

Huh.... C64s. My middle school had a bunch of them. Along with some early IBMs. Between those and textbooks which opened up to maps containing the USSR, it was almost like I was traveling back to the eighties every time I got off that school bus!

I can remember that my secondary school had DOS computers, only in my last year did they switch to Windows (1998). I hated those computer lessons, I was used to working Macs and thought DOS was too complicated and ancient. After secondary school I went to college to do MultiMedia Design (after a year I decided that wasn't for me) and my Mac experience came in very handy.
We had the C64 mainly as a gaming computer, a cousin of my mother was a bit of a hacker and we had quite a good selection of games. What I liked about the C64 was that when it was acting up giving it a good whack would usually solve the problem, which was very satisfying. |
