Unless you root and flash a different ROM, Sense is there, and sucks your RAM. The NA version of the S3, like the NA version of the X, uses the Qualcomm S4 Snapdragon (which currently is the only chipset with integrated LTE), and Samsung did the right thing in doubling the RAM in order not to hinder the use experience (this chipset requires 400MB for VRAM). The European versions don't have LTE and hence use Sammy's home grown Exynos quad-core. Same with the X, but they went with Tegra 3s instead.

The screen on the X is better, but not "much superior", that's hyperbole. For one, the blacks are better on the amoled; the advantage of the SuperLCD on the X is the whites are more true to life, and the colors a tad more natural.

Well, just giving you my personal impression. Anyway, I was referring to the Tegra 3 version.

The Galaxy Note 2 will be a phone with a 5.5" screen (that is what the rumors say), this is a 10.1" tablet. Although you can get it with LTE/3G, we don't know if you can make phone calls with it.

ah ok. their release dates seem so close together. i'm waiting for the Note 2 to come out before I decide which to get (Note or S3).

The desire only has 512MB, so sense is hurting it. If you were to install CM7, it'd run better.

I have never rooted, but since I only use it as remote and media player now, perhaps I should give it a try?

I would try, CM7 is very stable and the desire is certainly supported.

No, there is a 5.3" phone and a 10.1" tablet. And a soon to come Note2, rumoured to be 5.5".
