Hi to all new friends, from India

Hello everyone. I am Prashanth from Karnataka, India, and i am glad to join a knowledge-rich, friendly community like mobileread. So i salute all the administrators, moderators and members....

I have been lurking in the mobileread forum since a week now, but was a bit busy with my college works, so had not joined. Also i don't have a proper ebook reader or at least a device like PDA which can be called a reader( i noticed that one has to add the device which he/she uses as reader in registration area)......

However i couldn't resist the temptation of the interesting topics of discussion and the information flow throughout the forum, so just joined now...

I have been reading books ranging from my class notes to technical books & guides, also fiction, non-fiction etc in the electronic format. But i have always been using my computer for this purpose. And this practice has damaged my eye-sight to some extent, and i also have to face problems like power cuts in my place. Down the line, reading in the e-format has not been a very pleasant experience for me till now.

Thus i am thinking of making my move towards mobile forms of reading ebooks soon, and am hoping that i can get all the guidance about the reader devices, appropriate book formats and several other related contents.

I will also try my best contribute to this community in any way possible in the long run.......

A bit about myself:
  • Currently doing my graduation in India
  • Hobbies:
    Reading fiction and technical books
Going through Computer & IT related forums, books and magazines
Fiddling with computer hardware and softwares
    Computer games, listening to music

Again, a to the entire community.....
Regards, prash

Hi Prash! Welcome to MobileRead.

In what format are most of the materials you're reading now? I'm guessing the technical books are pdf?

Welcome! I also enjoy reading PDF format books on my computer while I'm on a break at work. (OK, maybe when I'm not on break also ) My next reader will probably be a tablet PC of some sort, because it allows for zooming the text as large as I wish.

Welcome!

The formats which i use:
  • For fiction, Non fiction - PDF, Text, LIT, DOC and RTF
  • For technical books, magazines: Mostly PDF, sometimes MHT, HTM too
  • For text books: Mainly CHM and PDF

Some softwares which i use:
  • For PDF: Foxit reader
  • For RTF, DOC, TXT: Mainly AbiWord
  • Lit files: microsoft reader

As i mainly use my computer for e books, i can be quite flexible with formats. That is one major advantage of using a computer to read e books. One doesn't have to worry much about formats. However there are several disadvantages too....
