I believe there is a chain of free newspapers titled Metro as well. Perhaps the new name will be Urban.

In the UK there is, yes, but that's not necessarily a problem when it comes to trademarks. Trademarks are registered for specific fields, and two (or more) companies can use the same trademarked name in different fields.

Are we in danger of running out of names? All the good ones are already taken, especially if they begin with "I". I guess this is why Android releases have such "unique" names.

Why bother with stupid names where you can't even tell by looking at them which ones are the newest release? Why not just call it Windows 8? The Android names are the stupidest. They aren't stocking a candy shop or something.

Now, if we could only get MS to drop the interface while they drop the name, and there may be some chance of saving Win 8. (Obviously, not happening, since Win 8 went RTM recently.) | |

I like the way Ubuntu does it. Each release has a (silly) name, but also it as a number, the year/month of its release. The 12.04 release is called Precise Pangolin. You can easily tell how old a version is this way.... How old is my XP box anyways?

The Android ones go up alphabetically, so it's actually trivially simple to tell if one version is later than another - if it starts with a later letter of the alphabet, it's a later release.

Personally I like the idea of the "year" after the name. Windows 95 was the best! |
